UK CHART NEWS

Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending 27 April 2017)
21 April 2017 - 27 April 2017
One Direction star Harry Styles introductory solo single “Sign Of The Times”, which opened atop the list last week, slipped to No.4 with sales off 45.17% week-on-week at 34,485, making it the fastest fading song in the entire Top 200. Although it may rebound next week, and will certainly slow its descent after Styles performed it on The Graham Norton Show (Friday 21st), it is the first chart-topper to be disposed off this quickly since Styles' former bandmate Zayn Malik's first solo single Pillow Talk slipped 1-2 in February 2016. However, Sign Of The Times remained top of the paid-for sales list - but its tally of just 16,686 such sales is the lowest for a No.1 on this list since such data was first collected by chart compilers BMRB in 1969. It replaced the previous low of 17,694 sales recorded by Orson's No Tomorrow when it climbed 2-1 on the chart dated 26 March 2006. By the way, when I mentioned last week that One Direction were the second band, after The Beatles, to have four or more members with Top 10 solo hits I left out the vital word male. All five Spice Girls, of course, made the Top 10 after launching solo careers.
Replacing Styles was Ed Sheeran, whose “Shape Of You” rebounded 2-1 (48,770 sales, including 38,256 from streams + 10,514 in download sales) to secure its 14th week at No.1.

Official UK Top 100 Albums Chart (Week Ending 27 April 2017)
21 April 2017 - 27 April 2017
Divide racked up its seventh straight week atop the album chart for Ed Sheeran. Sales of Divide last week, at 62,108 (including 19,941 from streams), were still beyond the reach of challengers, of which the latest was DAMN, the fourth studio album from 29-year-old Californian rapper Kendrick Lamar. Released thus far only digitally, Damn debuted at No.2 while setting a new personal best sale (31,543) for Lamar, with 10,318 of its sales coming from paid-for downloads, the remainder (21,225) from streaming, on which metric it becomes the first album to topple Divide.

American singer/songwriter John Mayer was back from his sabbatical but in lower orbit with seventh album, The Search For Everything made a debut at No.16 (4,360 sales) and topped the Official UK Americana Albums list

The Shires with MY UNIVERSE fell 81-96 with estimated sales of 800 copies in their 29th frame and a total estimated at116,800

(17 April 2017) Jack + Ella - Ready (EP) (GS Records) UK
4 Tracks/ Time: 13:15 Country Pop Rock Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com
Debut UK Country iTunes #7 (#255 overall UK Albums chart)

ABOUT
Jack + Ella (Jack Galloway + Ella Stephen) are a country duo based in London, UK.  Their music is rooted in country, with infectious and catchy pop-rock hooks. Their influences include artists like Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, John Mayer, Lady Antebellum, Sam Palladio + Clare Bowen, Florida Georgia Line and Taylor Swift.
JACK + ELLA met when they were 16 at an open mic competition that their dads had taken them to. Years later, in May 2016, they re-connected after recognizing their musical and personality similarities via the magical world of social media!  They realized very quickly that their writing and playing styles complimented each other too well for them to keep pursuing their music as solo artists - and so their official partnership was formed!
The duo's first single Hometown (>> Video) dropped 3rd April, with the EP Ready following on 17th April. Musicians wise, they have a band, all guitars are the two of them. Ella's father offers some BVs on "Hometown".
Their sound would appeal to fans of young US acts like Temecula Road and Bailey Bryan who played the C2C 2017 Festival. A 12-30s audience.

11 Tracks/ Time Rock Amazon UK - UK iTunes
Every day is a winding road, and no one knows that better than Sheryl Crow. After a few diversions into Memphis soul and modified country, along with personal upheavals both good (adopting two sons, beating cancer) and otherwise (what seems to be a recent nasty breakup), Crow is back to what she does best; cranking out melodic and emotionally vivid folk/pop/rock - American Songwriter. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars)

BE MYSELF, is Sheryl Crow's ninth studio album. For this album, Crow worked again with producer, musician, and songwriter Jeff Trott, a long-time collaborator throughout her career. Trott co-wrote many of Crow's classic hits including "If It Makes You Happy" and "My Favorite Mistake." Crow says her main goal was "to investigate what made my early songs strike people as being authentic and original. So for the first time in my life, I made it a point to sit down and really listen to my old records. I'd drive my kids to school and play the old stuff as I came back home. That helped me remember what it felt like when I was just beginning as an artist. But it wasn't about repeating myself. It was about revisiting where I came from and seeing where that would take me now."

(17 April 2017) Canadian Country Duo Petric Announce New Single “Play It Safe”, Available Everywhere Now

Award winning Manitoba country duo Petric announced the release of their brand new single “Play It Safe”, available digitally everywhere via SteelHead Music (UK iTunes). Playing it anything but safe, the single is more sonically evolved and mature than anything they’ve released thus far, leading with banjo riffs reminiscent of the one and only Keith Urban and showcasing the raw natural vocal talent that drew JUNO Award winning and platinum selling country star Dallas Smith to sign the band to Steelhead Music in the first place.

(17 April 2017) NEW MUSIC Dan Washburn - "We Were Almost Love"

Dan paid his dues with weekend bands starting when he was 13. He started doing session work in his 20's as a bassist and back-up singer. His credits include over 200 albums as a singer/song writer, producer and bassist. Dan was band leader for the late Colleen Peterson for several years. He has toured with George Fox, Terry Sheridan, Colleen Peterson and South Mountain. Dan has shared the stage on shows with Emmy-Lou Harris, Pirates of the Mississippi, Waylon Jennings, Toby Keith, Marty Stuart and Martina McBride to name a few.

He had success at radio with his first 5 releases to Canada and Europe before signing on with award winning band "South Mountain". Dan became their lead singer/bassist and spokesperson in the 90's. They soon after signed to Stony Plain Records; distributed world-wide by Warner Brothers. The band toured Canada and Europe extensively and were in high demand. They had a successful album "Where There's A Will" offering four chart successes. Dan has hosted two television shows for Cogeco Canada; most recently on 2015's special highlighting Canadian up & coming talent. He is a much sought after co-writer and producer. 2016 saw Dan make a CD (A Million Miles or So) of originals, with a 2nd album well under way. This new CD includes co-writing with some of Nashville's greats! Three songs were recorded in Nashville with some "A" session players @ Hilltop Studios with the first release to radio in August 2016 called "Miles On a Rockin' Chair". "We Were Almost Love" is the 2nd release from this session.
We Were Almost Love: Dan Washburn's soulful voice captures the raw emotion of a difficult life decision - a break up where no one is to blame, where decisions and directions have just pulled you apart and you sometimes wonder "what if." The heartache comes through loud and clear in this song co-written with award winning writer Kim Tribble (Shania Twain, Collin Raye, David Lee Murphy, Jason Aldean, etc..). Add the poignant backup vocals of Templeton Thompson and the heart-rending guitar solo of session leader Chris Luezinger (Garth Brooks) combined with an all-star cast of Nashville session musician s and you have a powerful track.

She shares: I wrote "Take Me Back" about having the courage to get out of an unhealthy relationship, take back your life and begin again with a fresh new start. We shot the video in several locations throughout the majestic red rock mountains of Southern Utah near Zion National Park and Snow Canyon. My home state of Utah is full of stunning terrain, and I found myself descending into deep valleys and climbing up steep inclines to capture the vibrant contrast of red rock against the blue sky. We moved from location to location admiring the beautiful scenery and had a great time shooting the footage.
