1 Mar 2012
Last week, CMA Chief Executive Officer Steve Moore surprised Marie Moloney, Senior Press Officer with Richard Wootton Publicity, with the 2011 Wesley Rose International Media Achievement Award. The award was presented during a BMI-hosted dinner honoring Country Music Hall of Fame member and three-time CMA Award winner Bill Anderson, four-time CMA Award winner Clint Black, and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Bob DiPiero, who were performing in the United Kingdom and Ireland for “The BMI and CMA Presents the CMA Songwriter Series.” This was the first international session of the CMA Songwriter Series. The Wesley Rose International Media Achievement Award recognizes outstanding achievements in the media, which contribute to the development of Country Music outside the United States. Radio, TV, print journalists, authors, editors, television writers, producers, and PR companies who reside outside the United States are eligible to win this award.

The London-based Moloney has extensive experience within the Country Music industry. While working at CMA in London in the late ’90s, she developed strong ties within the UK music industry. "The start of my love of Country Music dates back to the days of my dad blaring the likes of ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance’, ‘Big Bad John,’ and ‘El Paso’ from the car’s cassette player,” said Moloney. “Now, decades later, to be able to work in the genre and be awarded and recognized for what I do means more to me than I can ever put into words.
I want to thank CMA, particularly Bobbi Boyce for taking a chance on me all those years ago, Richard and Claire at RWP, and all the artists, managements, and associated companies I have had the pleasure to work with and on, over the years – long may it continue. The Band Perry
#1 Party

The siblings-turned-bandmates who make up the wildly popular The Band Perry are the cat's meow these days, and as evidence, the trio's record label and song publisher gave the players a No. 1 party this week.
Specifically, BMI and Republic Nashville hosted a Feb. 28 shindig to celebrate and commemorate the outfit's two-week No. 1 single, "All Your Life," and the player's self-titled debut CD, which has now sold more than 1 million units.
As for the group's current hit, the “All Your Life” ballad penned by tunesmiths Brian and Clara Henningsen has not only hit the top spot on the nation's country charts but also yielded gold certification, meaning sales of 500,000 and counting.
Lead-vocalist Kimberly Perry, in a Feb. 28 email communication, said, “Brian and Clara wrote a great song and we are so happy that they pitched it to us! We get such a great reaction from it live and the fact that it stayed in the No. 1 position for two consecutive weeks proves what a well-crafted song it is.

During The Band Perry's local party, Clay Bradley, who serves as BMI's assistant vice president of writer/publisher relations, introduced the group and songwriters to a SRO crowd in the lobby, then presented them with the symbolic silver cups for the No. 1 achievement. Then, BMLG President and CEO Scott Borchetta and Republic Nashville President Jimmy Harnen took a turn, presenting the band with their platinum plaque.

MERCURY NASHVILLE artist Scotty McCreery’s second single, “The Trouble With Girls,” has been certified Gold for reaching sales of 500,000 units, becoming his third consecutive release to receive a Gold or higher certification by the RIAA. “The Trouble With Girls” is his second consecutive Gold single, following his debut single, “I Love You This Big.” “Having the first single go Gold was crazy, but having the second single go Gold and to see the response it is getting in our shows is incredible,” SCOTTY said. “I wish I could come up with better words than ‘wild’ and ‘incredible,’ because this is really special. It’s a huge honor. I’m glad the single is doing well and I’m looking forward to keep singing it on the road.”

(29 Feb, 2012) Bye Bye Baby Bye Bye: The Monkees’ Davy Jones, 1945-2012

Sad day for Monkees‘ fans – TMZ reports that singer Davy Jones has passed away from a heart attack today at age 66. The heart attack that killed Monkees heartthrob Davy Jones came while the singer was in his stable surrounded by his beloved horses He is survived by his wife Jessica and his four daughters.
The Monkees formed in 1965 when producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider, inspired by The BeatlesA Hard Day’s Night, decided to launch a TV series about a rock band. They cast Jones along with Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Mike Nesmith to “play” the band, which was presented as a real group. The Monkees took a lot of heat for not writing or, for the most part, recording the music, but Jones and Dolenz were always the lead vocalists, even when the music had been created by session musicians.
Jones’ part in the appeal of the band was huge. His Brit accent, good looks, comic timing, self-deprecation, and his cool and affable demeanor appealed to all ages, and was a constant even after the group split in 1970. Jones went on to other projects, including memorable TV and film appearances. Both with and without the other members of The Monkees, he created some timeless pop songs, and his voice will never be forgotten. He was a great entertainer.

One of the Monkees #1 hits in America in 1967, was "Daydream Believer" is a song composed by John Stewart shortly before he left the Kingston Trio. The song was originally recorded by The Monkees, with Davy Jones singing lead vocals. It peaked at number five in the UK Singles Chart. It was The Monkees' last number one hit in the U.S. It was recorded by Canadian country star Anne Murray in 1979, whose version reached #3 on the U.S. country singles chart and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Tributes:
Micky Dolenz tweeted: "I am in a state of shock and disbelief right now... My heart and prayers go out to Davy's family."
Mike Nesmith posted a tribute on Facebook saying: "So many lovely and heartfelt messages of condolence and sympathy, I don't know what to say, except my sincere thank you to all. I share and appreciate your feelings."
He added: "David's spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us. I have fond memories. I wish him safe travels."
Trace Adkins issued a tweet about watching the Monkees’ TV show on Saturday mornings — “I remember watching The Monkees on Saturday mornings when I was a kid,” he said. “DAYDREAM BELIEVER…Rest in peace.”
Chuck Wicks, on the other hand, shared a more personal and firsthand experience with Jones, revealing that he actually made the late singer’s acquaintance at an awards show a few years ago. He tweeted: “Sat next to Davy Jones at an award show couple years back. Such a great guy.. RIP Davy Jones.”

The new album is sort of the brainchild of my husband (Producer Frank Liddell, who is well known for his work with Miranda Lambert). He, too, was one of the people that wanted me to put (an acoustic) show together so it all kinds of goes hand in hand.
When he sat down with the co producers and musicians that will be playing on this record, he talked about the way music is made these days. [Heavily produced] music is all we get these days. We don’t get the grittier, real stuff. So that’s what we will do.....

(Cindy Watts @ The Tennessean) -  If Brad Paisley can dish out the pranks – like transposing Scotty McCreery’s head on a picture of a naked old man riding a bike on the massive screen behind the stage - he should be ready for some retaliation!
Last weekend, McCreery, who opens the show nightly for Paisley, struck back. American Idol alum found out that Paisley keeps a spare hat backstage to wear after he gives the one he wore during the show to an audience member. On Saturday, McCreery swiped Paisley’s spare hat, put on an extra-small Paisley tour t-shirt, used eye-liner to paint on a goatee, borrowed his guitar player’s guitar and went out on stage during Paisley’s performance of “Celebrity. (Twitter Pic)
