The Wandering Hearts: Interviews, Artist Spotlight & Background + UK Tour & Headline show dates

(6 Sept 2017) INTERVIEW: The Wandering Hearts

Dan Wharton the Founder/Editor/Interviewer of Your Life In A Song (Website) / Marketing with Sonnet Music) introduces The Wandering Hearts nicely to the public.

To paint a picture of The Wandering Hearts, Tara (Tara Wilcox), Chess (Francesca Whiffin), AJ (Alexander John Dean-Revington) and Tim (Timothy Prottey-Jones); Folk Americana vocal harmony group) one would need to find their most blood red hard earned brush. An Americana / Country music group from London that came together almost in defiance of the current zeitgest of rhinestone hats and Fender guitar UK country-rock that has jumped onto the proverbial bandwagon in the last two years.
The Wandering Hearts demeanour, work ethic and lyrics echo the struggle of a group of musicians who've lived the hard pavements of North London.
They have all jobbed it as musicians, and the standard is there to be seen, earned through nights of sweat on string, scraping by but smiling alongside the communal friendship that the life brings.

As a writer, Tim never shied away from pop sensibilities or the commercial elements that make songs memorable with hook laden, catchy choruses.

Birmingham-based Tim Prottey-Jones is an experienced professional guitarist, drummer and vocalist with a music degree from the University of Wolverhampton and as a young composer blended musical theatre with an exciting pop/rock edge.
This led to song placements through Sony Europe and Warner Music Nashville. With a number of albums, EP’s and various singles under his belt, Tim had a proven record of being able to write industry standard tracks in a number of styles, including: Rock, Pop, Country, Dance and Musical Theatre.

The albums MORE WITH EVERY LINE (6 Dec 2010) and SURROUNDED BY THE SOUNDS (released 3 Oct 2011 Amazon UK | iTunes) The album featured some of the best West End & Broadway voices including Twinnie (Twinnie Lee Moore) both consisted of original material from two new pieces of musical theatre sung by the best voices that Broadway and London’s West End have to offer.
As a musician and vocalist, Tim has shared stages with artists as diverse as The Blackout, Mel C, Tim Minchin, Chris Moyles, The Libertines, Paul Young, Ruthie Henshall and Albert Lee.
On 7 Sept 2015, he released a 15-track album To Do. To Be. (Amazon UK; Folk/Musicals & Cabaret). Track 11 "Robert Louis Stevenson" featured The Paper Hearts.

SEEDS OF THE WANDERING HEARTS
The seeds of the band were sown in late 2015 when Tim Prottey-Jones and Tara Wilcox found themselves singing at the same gig, and immediately hit it off over their shared background. Both were hard-bitten pros: the heroically bearded Prottey-Jones was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and actor who had worked extensively in musical theatre and as a session musician; Wilcox, with years of experience under her belt, had her own singing school.
Shortly thereafter, they were introduced by mutual friends to singer/guitarist A.J. Dean, an alumnus of "the U.K.'s premier rock 'n' roll band" the Bluejays; and Francesca "Chess" Whiffin, also a former musical theater performer. Deciding to get together at Tim's apartment over G&Ts to play some songs he had written, the quartet clicked at once.
Christening themselves the Paper Hearts, they recorded two demo songs, "Today Is Ours" and "Sunshine," which they uploaded to SoundCloud, leading to a flurry of immediate interest.
Within a month, they had been invited to audition for Decca at a London showcase, who signed them on the spot.
Rebranded the Wandering Hearts, probably to avoid confusion with any of numerous other acts with the same name, they played a number of high-profile festival shows in 2016, and released their debut single, the bittersweet "Wish I Could," on May 5, 2017. The track has had over 500,000 streams on Spotify and currently logging 77K monthly listeners.

Their music is a British twist on everything you love about the classic Fleetwood Mac sound, with folk and country influences from the likes of First Aid Kit, The Lumineers and Chris Stapleton in their too, plus some of the finest harmonies of any emerging act that you’ll have heard in years.

Their first London show at St. Pancras Old Church (26th April 2017) was sold out, and single Wish I Could was championed by Michael Ball and his team at BBC Radio 2.

They played in the Den at the Cambridge Folk Festival in July.

On the BBC Radio 2 Playlist for the week commencing Saturday 19th August 2017 their single "Devil" was added to the BBC Radio 2 "B" Playlist.
It was played on Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show (who has lost almost half a million listeners in the past year). on Tues Sept 5th BBC Playlist
They were the featured cover artist for the August/September 2007 issue of Maverick Magazine.
