TOWIE's Megan McKenna lands No.1 on iTunes chart with debut country single High Heeled Shoes

Essex’s Megan McKenna new country single High Heeled Shoes/ Far Cry from Love land #1 & #2 on UK iTunes and enjoy 2 weeks on the Official UK Singles Chart!

Megan McKenna’s new single High Heeled Shoes, released September 6, 2017, sent her straight to the top of both UK Country iTunes Singles Chart and the UK iTunes all genre chart without any radio airplay!
As a non-follower of Reality TV, it prompted the question just who is Megan McKenna?

Well she’s a TOWIE/ Celebrity Big Brother 16 babe reality TV star!
She beat out P!nk and Taylor Swift, despite only releasing the song on Wednesday morning (Sept 6).
McKenna celebrated her chart-topping success on Twitter, posting:
“OMG I AM OVERWHELMED! I am Currently No.1 & 2 on iTunes! (iTunes | Amazon UK (was ranked #20) | Building Our Own Nashville Read Single Review)

Release Date: 6 Sept 2017
Songs: High Heeled Shoes/ Far Cry From Love

2 Tracks/ Time: 7:37

High Heeled Shoes Debut UK Country iTunes Shoes #1 (#2 overall UK Singles chart)
Far Cry from Love Debut UK Country iTunes #2 (#5 overall UK Singles chart)

CHART SUCCESS
Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending 14 September 2017)
(8 September 2017 - 14 September 2017)
"Look What You Made Me Do" the first single from Taylor Swift's upcoming album Reputation held at No.1 (46,411 sales, including 30,166 from sales-equivalent streams + 16,245 pure sales)
Although making a significantly lower debut, reality TV star Megan McKenna's High Heeled Shoes (No.43, 8,480 sales) and Far Cry From Love (No.53, 6,999 sales) were released less than 48 hours before the end of the chart week, were #1 & #2 on UK iTunes, and outsold Swift and achieved higher paid-for sales in that period.

The only other country single to appear on the Top 100 in 2017 so far was the late Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" (chart dated Aug 17, 2017) at #98.
It is something on a rarity the last 5-years to see a country single on the Top 100 and hard to recall anything from a British country artist.
Born in Cambridgeshire UK, Olivia Newton-John with "Banks of the Ohio" reached #6 UK and "Take Me Home, Country Roads" peaked at #15
Dave Clark Five had a No.7 hit in the UK Singles Chart with Raymond Froggatt's "The Red Balloon" in 1968.
Peters and Lee were a successful British folk and pop duo from the 1970s and their single "Welcome Home" reached #1 in May 1973.
Tom Jones' "Green, Green Grass of Home" (1966) was # 1 and his cover of Bobby Bare's "Detroit City" reached #8 in 1967.
Frank Jennings came to prominence in the 1970’s when country music in the UK was riding on the crest of a wave. He won the TV talent show “Opportunity Knocks”. The Reading-based singer led his band Frank Jennings Syndicate higher than just about any other UK country act then or since (until The Shires and Ward Thomas). They won TV’s Opportunity Knocks, were signed to EMI Records and charted on the UK pop charts with "Me & My Guitar" (#51) and also gained a gold disc along the way.
Despite BBC Radio 2 A/B playlisting over 10 singles for The Shires and Ward Thomas nothing has charted in the top 100.

Megan McKenna SOCIAL MEDIA Followers: Facebook (300K Followers) | Twitter (620K Followers) | Instagram (2 Million Followers) | Spotify (Currently 156K monthly listeners)
Megan’s 2 million followers (including on Twitter: BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris, Maverick Magazine, country artist/actress Twinnie and award winning and nominated Holloway Road & Jade Helliwell) went into meltdown over her happy news. OK!

"That's in 11 hours!!! Well done," one impressed follower wrote.

Wasn't a big country fan BUT then I heard High Heeled Shoes and Far Cry From Love…..oh my god I'm obsessed!!!

Spotify also included her on the Very Nearly Nashville playlist alongside the likes of Thomas Rhett & Kesha!

After finding fame through Ex on the Beach and The Only Way is Essex, McKenna is now pursuing a country music career.
She recently starred in three-part ITVBe spin-off series (www.itv.com/hub/), There’s Something About Megan, which saw her head to Nashville to develop her singing and song-writing skills.

ITVBe’s (Website) There's Something About Megan aired on Freeview/YouView 26 | Sky 149/Scotland 131 | Virgin 119 | Freesat 118. All 3 episodes were repeated back-to-back on Sunday Sept 10th. They are available on demand via ITV Hub
Megan said of the three-part series: “I can't wait to spend this summer in Nashville. I have been a country music fan my whole life so to go to the place where some of my favorite country music artists have recorded really is a dream come true. - www.tellymix.co.uk

Earlier this month, McKenna wowed Loose Women viewers (>> YouTube) when she sang an a capella version of Eva Cassidy’s Fields of Gold.

Her new song High Heeled Shoes was inspired by her on-off relationship with her TOWIE co-star Pete Wicks.

During a session on her new show with professional songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman (Instagram), she said: "I feel like the song, where I want it to go would be explaining a place, like where I felt like last year – when stuff happened.” "I feel like I want to say in it, 'If you show me, and I feel like I can trust you with everything again, then it will work'.

After hearing Megan perform some of her original material for the first time in Nashville, Grammy award winning song-writer Beth Nielsen Chapman, offered to mentor Megan as a song writer, and together they created the emotional second track on this single “Far Cry From Love”.

When reflecting on the song Megan said: “This is a really heartfelt ballad which I wrote, and it means so much to me. To be able to express my feelings in a song is something I have always wanted to do. I’m sure there are so many girls and guys out there who can relate to loving a person so much, yet the only person that you think can help get you through the breakup is them but they’re the problem and so can’t be the cure! It’s really personal to me and I’m so happy with the song.”

This all comes after Megan revealed The X Factor judge Louis Walsh is secretly mentoring her. She told reporters at the 2017 TV Choice Awards, "Louis Walsh and I talk a lot about my music, and he's really happy with how it's going. Basically, he actually was one of the people who said to me ages ago that I should go to Nashville and do a show.”
The Sun: TAKING ON TAYLOR Towie’s Megan McKenna reveals she’d love to be targeted on Taylor Swift’s next revenge track after knocking her off the top spot

In the last episode of There’s Something About Megan, the star performed four songs at her showcase in front of an audience of very important people connected to the music industry. She admitted being nervous before taking to the stage at the famous Station Inn in a bid to secure a record deal - but it paid off as she wowed the crowds with her voice. "I feel like my final performance went really well," said Megan.
"Walking off the stage and seeing my mum and everyone there, them being so proud and happy about it, it's just the best feeling ever."

Megan did what was needed to impress the record label and was told after that High Heeled Shoes would be released as a single.
Talent agent Nick told her: "The amazing thing was, when you started to sing, you pulled the crowd right in and that's what a great performer would do. "Tonight, you showed me you won over the audience which is very hard to do in this town and in America and the world. "The great thing about you is you have to be first or you have to be different.
"There's no question you're different but you could also be a first from your area of the world to be successful as a country musician."

High Heeled Shoes has now had radio play on Heart, Capital FM, Radio 1 and Bob Harris(OBE) added it to the curated BBC Radio 2 Country Playlist on Thurs Sept 14, 2017 – BBC Playlist.
Megan tweeted: Ahhhhhh play on Radio1 this morning! And capital & heart yesterday, This is mad! And all thanks to you guys buying my single!
