NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Monument Records recording artist Walker Hayes’ “irresistibly quirky” (PEOPLE) lead single “You
Broke Up With Me” off his forthcoming album boom. (12/8) has
accumulated more than 500,000
combined units of streams and sales, solidifying its RIAA Gold
Certification. (Update: Actual pure sales 295,000
chart dated Jan 13, 2018)
"It is hard to describe how it feels. A Gold
record," says Hayes, "I am
so grateful for the support from everyone who made this happen. I appreciate
all the people who got on board with this project and this song. I'm so honored
to have 'You Broke Up With Me' go Gold."
Hayes was
surprised with a gold plaque
following an intimate album release show at a private space in Nashville. The
RIAA Gold Certification represents sales in excess of 500,000 units for his hit
single, “You Broke Up With Me,” that has more than 50 million streams and is No. 14 and climbing on the Country radio
charts. The catchy single, penned by Hayes, Thomas Archer and Kylie Sackley,
has allowed the new artist to break “into the mainstream by sounding different”
Washington Post.

The
Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional
album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums
(SEA).
Taylor Swift with REPUTATION album racked up a second week at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart, as the set earned 256,000 equivalent album units in the week
ending Nov. 23, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 232,466 were in traditional album
sales. The set debuted atop the list a week ago with 1.238 million units, of
which 1.216 million were in album sales.
Reputation
was the first album to spend multiple weeks at No.1 on the chart in four
months, since JAY-Z’s 4:44 topped the list for two weeks (July 29 and Aug.
5-dated charts). Further, Reputation is the first album by a woman to rack up
more than a single week at No. in more
than a year-and-a-half. Rihanna’s ANTI was the last to do so, with two non-consecutive
weeks at No.1 on the Feb. 20 and April 2, 2016-dated charts. And Swift is the
first woman to notch her first two weeks at No. 1 on the chart since Adele’s 25
ruled for its first seven frames (of 10 total non-consecutive weeks) between
Dec. 12, 2015 and Jan. 23, 2016.
At
No.2 on the Billboard 200, superstar
country couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill debuted
with their first collaborative effort, THE
REST OF OUR LIFE. The album earned 104,000
units, of which 98,351
were in
traditional album sales. The title’s debut granted McGraw his best sales week
and chart rank since 2013’s TWO LANES OF FREEDOM debuted and peaked at No. 2
with 107,000 copies sold in its first week. For Hill, the new set lands the
diva her highest charting effort since her FIREFLIES set debuted at No.1 on the
Aug. 20, 2005 list (selling 329,000 copies), and her best sales frame since
that Christmas, when Fireflies sold 145,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 25.
The album was certified 2× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA.
The
debut week of The Rest of Our Life was aided by a concert ticket/album bundle sale redemption promotion with
McGraw and Hill’s 2018 tour.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an

“sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from

Tim McGraw, Faith Hill
Bundle A #1 Country Album
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill debuted
at No.1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart (dated Dec. 9), as the superstar
couple’s first collaborative LP, THE
REST OF OUR LIFE (McGraw/Arista Nashville/Sony Music Nashville), launched
with 104,000 equivalent album units (98,351 in
traditional sales) in the week ending Nov. 23, according to Nielsen Music.
“So many people to thank, but we are
especially grateful for our amazing fans and the talented folks who worked on
the album with us,” the pair told Billboard in a joint statement. “We are blessed to get to do this and, even
more so, together.”
Nine of the 11
songs on their first-ever duets album were produced by longtime collaborator Byron Gallimore and two by Dann Huff. The title track was written
by Ed Sheeran with Amy Wadge, Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac and “Damn Good at
Holding On” was co-written by “Humble & Kind” composer Lori McKenna. Meghan
Trainor is featured on the album closer “Roll the Dice,” co-penned with Shy
Carter, Bobby Hamrick and James LeBlanc.
Fans who bought
tickets for Tim McGraw & Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul
The World Tour 2018 included a
bundled album with each purchase. Every online ticket order included
one (1) physical copy of The Rest Of Our Life. They received an email with
instructions on how to redeem the offer.
On Top Country
Albums, Life marks McGraw’s 16th
leader, with all of them having debuted at the summit.
The coronation
ties him with Garth Brooks and Merle Haggard for the third-most No. 1s in the
chart’s nearly 54-year history. Among all artists, George Strait leads with 26,
followed by Willie Nelson (17).
Speaking of
Brooks, McGraw and Hill are the first married couple to crown Top Country
Albums as a tandem since Brooks and Trisha Yearwood a year ago, when their
CHRISTMAS TOGETHER topped the Dec. 3, 2016-dated tally.
The 11-song
Life is McGraw’s first Top Country Albums No.1 since SUNDOWN HEAVEN TOWN, which
arrived at No. 1 on Oct.4, 2014 (with 71,253 copies sold).
Life has
produced two singles so far: “Speak to a Girl” peaked at No. 6 on
Hot Country Songs in April, becoming McGraw and Hill’s sixth shared top 10,
while the title track hurtles 25-18 this week.
CHART HISTORY: Tim McGraw made a bow at No.5 on the
Billboard 200 (#3 Top Country albums) when his 14th studio album, released November
6, 2015 DAMN COUNTRY MUSIC (43,000
units; 39,267 in pure album sales). It
marked McGraw’s 19th top 10 album but fell short of equalling George Strait’s
record 16 No.1s since the chart adopted SoundScan data in May 1991
Tim’s 2014’s SUNDOWN HEAVEN TOWN (McGraw/Big
Machine/Big Machine Label Group) debuted and peaked at No.3 on the BB200 (#1
Country) with 71,253 copies sold (60%
Physical), according to SoundScan. McGraw's 2013's TWO LANES OF FREEDOM, produced by Byron Gallimore, entered at No.2
on the Billboard 200 marking the country star's first album for Big Machine
Records selling 106,604 copies (chart week
Feb 23, 2013) to bag his 15th Top 10 and 14th leader on the Country Albums
chart.
Faith Hill’s sixth studio album FIREFLIES, released on August 2, 2005 debuted
at No.1 on the Aug. 20, 2005 list (selling 329,000 copies). CRY, her fifth studio, released October
15, 2002, via Warner Bros. Nashville and sold 472,486
copies in its first week, a career best for
Hill.
BREATHE (Warner Bros. Records), her fourth studio, released Nov 9, 1999
won a Grammy Award for Best Country Album. Certified 8× Platinum by the RIAA, Breathe is one of the most successful
country/pop albums to date. It debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, a first
for the country artist when it opened with 242,000 units.
Critical
reception for Tim
McGraw & Faith Hill’s The Rest of Our Life:
Allmusic (Rating: 3/5 stars)…. As
such, it can veer toward background music, but it's enlivened by the chemistry
between McGraw and Hill. After 20 years of marriage, they still seem smitten
with each other, and that palpable affection is not only endearing, it sustains
the album.
Roughstock (Rating: Positive) ….Maybe a record
like this will inspire young country couples like Maren Morris & Ryan Hurd
and Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans to record some
duets projects or maybe,
just maybe, inspire Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood to finally release a
true duets album (and not a Christmas album). Until those things happen, we
have The Rest Of Our Life to hold us over and, boy, what a placeholder it is!
Newsday (Rating: 3/4 STARS)…They are best, though, when they cut loose. They even sing about the
process in the playful “The Bed We Made,” co-written by the great Lori McKenna,
who co-wrote McGraw’s stunning hit “Humble and Kind.” Early on, they sing about
completing their “honey do” lists and life being “damn near perfect on the
cul-de-sac,” before they “make a mess of the bed we made this morning.”
Saving Country Music (Rating: 1 1/2 Guns DOWN (3/10)…A fool
would be one who thought Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s long-awaited duet record
would be some landmark accomplishment. But we at least thought there would be
something worth salvaging here. Instead it feels very much like a side project
and a misstep for both artists, regardless of a few sweet moments and the sexy
time it may brew for some couples. It’s background music at best, destined to
be seriously forgotten in pretty short order for the legacies both artists have
forged on their own.
Garth Brooks with new box set, The Anthology: Part I, The First Five Years, opened at No.2 (#4 Billboard 200) with 53,000 units — all from traditional
album sales (53,085 copies sold). (The album
was released on Nov. 14, and only available on CD and withheld from streaming
services.) The five-CD archival effort was bundled with Brooks’ new book
about the first five years of his recording career.
The box set’s
first three days of sales (Nov. 14-16) were not reported to Nielsen Music, so
the title arrived on the list with its first full tracking week of activity
(Nov. 17-Nov. 23). Had its first three days of sales been reported, the box
would have debuted on the chart a week ago.
The Anthology:
Part I is Brooks’ 19th top 10 album and fourth box set to reach the top 10.
Anthology follows the 10-CD The Ultimate
Collection (No. 6, 2016), the six-CD Blame
It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences (No. 1, 2013) and the six-CD
The Limited Series (No. 1, 1998).
In the
collection, Brooks chronicles his 1989-1993 rise in his own words. “My favorite
thing about Part 1 was what I learned,” Brooks told Billboard in September. For
instance: “I had no idea that [songwriter]
Tony Arata’s
first cut in Nashville was ‘The Dance.’ I would have thought it had to be his
20th.” The five CDs, which contain 52 songs, include neverbefore-released
material, demos and master recordings.
Former
No.1 Blake Shelton with
TEXOMA SHORE (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) fell 2-3 (#10-13 Billboard 200) selling 29,725 copies (up 6%; 3-week total 112,631)
Former No.1 Kane Brown with his SELF-TITLED album held at No.4 (#32-37 Billboard 200) selling 7,381 copies (up 21%; 51-week total 264,000).
Former
No.1 Thomas Rhett with LIFE
CHANGES (Valory/Big Machine Label Group) rose 6-5 (#42-41 Billboard 200) selling 6,328 copies (up 41%, 11-week total 174,600).
Chase Rice with LAMBS & LIONS (Dack Janiels/Broken
Bow/BMG | BBMG) made a debut at No.6
(No.42 Billboard 200).
Broken
Bow Records' Chase Rice promoted the album when he appeared (Nov 17) on
CBS-TV's "CBS This Morning"
to discuss his new album. RICE shared details of his unusual path to fame
during the interview piece.
Rice brought in producers Chris DeStefano, Ross
Copperman, Mac McAnally and Jacquire King for his sophomore 10-song collection.
He wrote “Three Chords & The Truth” with Copperman and Jon Nite, and
welcomed Ned LeDoux on a cover of
his late father Chris LeDoux’s “This Cowboy’s Hat.”
Critical reception for Chase Rice’s
Lambs & Lions: (Broken Bow Records)
Roughstock
(Rating: Very Positive)…. Chase
Rice has built his career with deeply loyal fans supporting him even as he has
worked to figure out the next chapter of his career. Three years after
releasing Ignite The Night, Chase has given those patient fans an album they’ve
been waiting for but here’s the best part, he’s made a record which expands on
that sound and suggests a path for where his career will go in the future.
Lambs & Lions is a lean, tight collection of songs.
Your Life In A Song
(Rating: Positive)…there is no reason why
‘Lambs and Lions’ cannot find a little niche for itself amongst all the other
things happening in Country music right now. Amen.
Entertainment-focus (Rating:
Positive)…Lambs & Lions is a bold
statement and it should see Rice moving on from his past and his troubles. It’s
a confident collection of personal songs that shows the man behind the hits.
It’s a step in the right direction and it should see him taken more seriously
as an artist with a lot more to give than he’s been able to up to this point.
Chris Stapleton with From a Room: Volume 1 (Mercury/Universal Music Group Nashville)
fell 3-8 (26-53 BB200)
selling 9,640

fell 5-7 (33-48 BB200) selling
7,470 copies (134-week total 2,126,400).
In
her third frame Kelsea Ballerini with UNAPOLOGETICALLY (Black River) held at No.9 (50-59 Billboard 200) selling 8,055 copies (up 5%; 3-week total 50,587)
Former No.1 Luke Combs with THIS ONE’S FOR YOU (River House/
Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) fell 8-10 (#49-61 Billboard 200) selling 4,133
copies (down 19%; 25-week total 154,300).

Dog/BMG/Broken Bow Music Group), fell 7-11

Reba McEntire with her re-issued MY KIND OF CHRISTMAS (Nash Icon | BMLG)

Various Artists with A Tribute To Dan Fogelberg (Valory |
BMLG) made a debut at No.18 (#100
BB200) selling 7,307
copies.
Produced
by Fogelburg’s wife, Jean, Norbert Putnam, his lifelong friend/manager, Irving
Azoff, and Chuck Morris, the homage to Fogelberg will be released through BMG.
The
collection contains recreations of some of Fogelberg’s biggest hits, including
“Longer,”
“Hard
to Say,” “Leader of the Band,” (performed by Zac Brown), and “Same
Old Lang Syne,” (performed by Train.) A moving rendition of “Part
of the Plan,” from 1974’s Souvenirs, performed by the Eagles, is also
included on the album.
“A
good thing never dies and that ‘good thing’ is Dan’s music,” said Garth Brooks
about Fogelburg’s influence. “As for me, my life has been a poor attempt to
imitate the man. That man is Dan Fogelberg, and he will live forever in those
of us who have let his gift bring so much light to our paths.

LANCO posted its first No. 1 on Hot Country
Songs, as “Greatest Love Story” (Arista Nashville) ascended 3-1 on the survey.
“Story” held for a second week atop Country
Airplay, gaining 8% to 45.6 million audience impressions; rebounded 3-1 for a
second week at No.1 on Country Digital Song Sales (16,000 sold, down 4%); and slipped
8-10 on Country Streaming Songs, but with a 1% gain to 5 million U.S. streams.
The track, written by LANCO frontman Brandon Lancaster, is the first solo penned
Hot Country Songs No. 1 since Little Big Town’s Taylor Swift-written “Better
Man,” which topped the survey for two weeks in February.
“I wrote this
song before we had a record deal, and it feels like such a strong testament to
the power of songwriting,” Lancaster told Billboard. “Anyone on any given day
could sit down with a pen and paper and write lyrics that could one day
resonate with millions of people.”
Eric Church earned his 14th Hot Country Songs top 10,
as “Round
Here Buzz” (EMI Nashville) rose 14-10. It gained by 10% to 31.7 million
in airplay audience (and lifted 8-7 on Country Airplay) and 9% to 4.1 million
U.S. streams.
Chris Young tallied his 13th Country Airplay top 10, as “Losing Sleep” (RCA Nashville)
climbed 6% to 26.3 million (12-10).
