UK CHART NEWS
Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart (Week Ending 30 August 2018)
24 August 2018 - 30 August 2018
No.1 for the fourth time in all, and second week in a row, George Ezra’s Shotgun is again the week’s most-streamed track but slips to No.2 on the paid-for sales chart, where it has accumulated six weeks at No.1.
With consumption in the week of 53,892 copies (including 45,657 from sales-equivalent streams + 8,235 pure sales), Shotgun ceded its paid-for sales throne to Promises, the new collaboration between Calvin Harris and Sam Smith, which opened at No.4 with consumption of 41,407 units, of which 13,742 are paid-for sales. Harris’ 36th Top 75 entry, and Smith’s 16th, it raises the former’s tally of Top 10 hits to 25, and the latter’s to nine.

Despite suffering the half value (200/1200) model of sales-equivalent streaming ratios, since they are not ‘actively promoted’, two songs by the late Aretha Franklin re-entered the Top 75 following her death. I Say A Little Prayer (No.4, 1968) re-entered at No.51 (9,172 sales) and Respect (No.10, 1967) at No.62 (8,012 sales) while the previously uncharted (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, dating from 1967, fell just short of its Top 75 debut at No.79 (6,199 sales).

Official UK Top 100 Albums Chart (Week Ending 30 August 2018)
24 August 2018 - 30 August 2018
Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album SWEETENER became her second No.1, debuting in pole position on sales of 44,755 copies, including 17,449 from sales-equivalent streams (27,306 pure sales), while spinning off new hits in the form of the title track and Breathin.
The first album by an American woman to top the chart since Taylor Swift’s Reputation last November, Sweetener provides Grande’s highest-ever first week sale.

After debuting at No.67 last week primarily on sales registered in the few hours between the announcement of her death and the end of the trading week, Aretha Franklin’s 2007 compilation SOUL QUEEN surged to No.15 (4,603 sales), to become only her second Top 10 album, nearly 50 years after the first, Aretha Now, which reached No.6 in October 1968. There were re-entries for Respect: The Very Best Of (No.27, 2,355 sales), which debuted and peaked at No.16 in 2002 and A Brand New Me (No.45, 1,698 sales), which debuted and peaked at No.61 last December, and adds new Royal Philharmonic Orchestra orchestrations to classic Aretha tracks. 1986 compilation 30 Greatest Hits becomes Franklin’s 14th chart album, making its first ever appearance at No.27 (2,355 sales).

CANADIAN NEWS
(22 Aug 2018) On August 31, multi-award-winning recording artist Michelle Wright will digitally release the gospel-tinged ballad, "Lovin' This Day" and the groovin' "Attitude Is Everything" across all digital platforms. This marks Wright's first new recordings since the release of Strong (2013 Savannah Music).

In 2014, after touring in support of Strong, Michelle took a break from recording and divided her time between live performances and songwriting. In late 2016 she knew that it was time to assemble a new team and return to recording new music. " My music is always an extension of me," says Wright, "Each new song is a chance to push a little harder, and dig a little deeper." She enlisted the help of producer, fellow Canadian and long-time friend Bob Funk to begin the process of sorting through the mountain of songs she had written, co-written and received from other writers. Reaching into the catalogs of another long-time friend Daryl Burgess and his cowriters Joanna Cotten and Angie Russell, Wright and Funk created an intoxicating mix of contemporary country and R&B roots that have been the foundation of the Michelle Wright musical journey since her first CD Do Right By Me was released in 1988.

(20 Aug 2018) It's National Radio Day!
Each year on AUGUST 20th, NATIONAL RADIO DAY recognizes the great invention of the radio.
On the National Day Calendar website, it is noted that "in the late 19th century, it became clear that wireless communication was possible. Several inventors had a part in the invention of the radio in the late 1800s, and not just one person can be credited with its beginning. To make the radio a reality, it required several different inventions and discoveries, including both transmission and reception methods, as well as technology. In fact, the radio’s inception required an international effort. The research of German Heinrich Hertz proved electrical could be transmitted wirelessly. The multiple patents of the prolific inventor Nikola Tesla provided the radio with the TESLA coil. Born in Croatia, Tesla also contributed many patents involving alternating current, advancing the science and production of numerous inventions. When it comes to the first commercially available wireless, Guglielmo Marconi receives the honor."

COUNTRY GOSSIP
(26 Aug 2018) Miranda Lambert splits from Evan Felker
Miranda Lambert and Evan Felker have broken up, though the signer has assured fans she's happy.
Back in May 2018, it was confirmed that the couple began dating after the 34-year-old musician and his band, the Turnpike Troubadours, joined Lambert's Livin’ Like Hippies Tour in early February.
Felker's estranged wife Staci Nelson was reportedly blindsided with his sudden divorce filing just days after he had met the 34-year-old Tin Man star for the first time, according to a People.
But in a recent interview with The Tennessean, Lambert opened up about her relationship status and revealed she is now “happily single”.
“Love is a hard road sometimes and it’s been a roller-coaster ride for me, but I’m definitely thankful for all the ups and downs because I’ve had some really good songs come out of it,” she explained.
“You’ve got to take the bad parts and put them on paper and then move on to the happy parts.” The couple was last spotted in late July when they were photographed holding hands in New York City ahead of their show at the Jones Beach Theater.
