(21 Aug 2019) 6
months on from the release of their UK all genre top-ten album ‘Restless
Minds’, British record makers Ward Thomas
have returned to the recording studio to start work on their fourth LP. The new
CD will be their third studio release via major label Sony Music following
their record-breaking 2016 sophomore ‘Cartwheels’ and this year’s crossover
hit.
The 25-year-old
girls shared on social media
(Wednesday, August 21st) that they had returned to Rak Studios in London to
officially start laying down tracks for the forthcoming body of work. Ward
Thomas have also been writing with Jessica Sharman and Rebekah Powell once

(24 Aug 2019) The
Borderline Closes Its Doors
On Facebook they
shared: It is with great sadness that we have closed the doors at Borderline
for the final time. Over the past 35 years, Borderline has been lucky enough to
play host to a whole variety of music artists who have become some of the
biggest in the world, going on to sell out stadiums across the globe, as well
as regular tours from smaller acts filling our venue, year after year.
Our little Soho
basement was a dedicated space for musicians and their fans, situated
smack-bang in the middle of London – an oasis in a sea of rapid development and
gentrification, whose wave unfortunately managed to crash over us in the end.

Taylor Swift's 'Lover' Conquer All With Another Million-Selling Debut?
Music executives say the days of million-selling debut
weeks are over -- but they’re still hoping Swift proves them wrong
When Taylor Swift’s LOVER album comes out Aug. 23, many in the
music business will be watching closely to see if she can once again hit the
industry’s iconic benchmark for success: 1 million U.S. sales in the
first week.
The last time an artist sold 1 million copies of an
album in the United States in a single week was in 2017, when Swift’s
Reputation sold 1.2 million in the period ending Nov. 16, according to Nielsen
Music. Her three previous releases -- 1989, Red and Speak Now -- also sold over
1 million, making her the only artist in history with four albums to cross the
million-sales mark in his or her first week (or any week). In this business
climate, the only other act who could probably do so is Adele, whose last set,
25, moved 3.4 million copies in its first week back in 2015.
Since then, the downturn in album sales -- which have
dropped 35% since 2017 -- coupled with the rise of streaming, have seemingly
made hitting the million-sales mark almost impossible.
Lover’s first week will serve as a bellwether for the
health of music purchases as a business model, and several label executives and
retail merchants think sales could reach 600,000.
While that total is half the 1.216 million copies that
Reputation sold in its debut week, that album also had the benefit of coming
out in November, during the holiday season, which always boosts sales.
In a new move for Swift, Lover is her first album to
be available on streaming services the day it arrives and is expected to
generate another 125,000 to 150,000 album-consumption units. That would put her
total projected album consumption units around the 750,000 mark, according to
industry prognosticators. The majority of sales are expected to come from
Target, where Swift has an exclusive packaging deal; the iTunes Store; Amazon,
which for weeks has placed promos for Lover on some of its Prime shipment
boxes; and Walmart. Industry executives expect her to sell at least 400,000
copies combined at Target and iTunes alone.

(19 Aug 2019) Andrew Combs shares new single
'Born Without A Clue'
Andrew Combs is set to release his new album, IDEAL MAN, on September 20th
via New West Records. The 11-song set was produced by Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby,
Benjamin Booker). Captured live in Cohen’s Brooklyn studio, Ideal Man also
features Combs’ long-time collaborators, drummer Dom Billet and
guitarist/keyboardist/bassist Jerry Bernhardt.
Brooklyn Vegan premiered his new single, ‘Born Without
A Clue’ (>> Audio). Combs said “This is a
tune I wrote the day after Tom Petty passed away. I was thinking about his
catalogue of songs, and how simple and straight from the heart they were - no
fluff. It seemed like he ignored the nuisance of blowing something out of
proportion just for the glitz and the glam. It hit me how important that
outlook was in life.”

Granger Smith and his family moved house after three-year-old River drowned in the pool
at their former abode.
Granger and wife Amber's son River tragically died
after a drowning accident at the family home in June.
In several YouTube videos posted since, fans have
pointed out that the star appears to be in a different property, with the
Happens Like That singer confirming the move in a new video shared on Sunday.
"There was thousands of good memories, and one
really bad one," he said in the video, which featured a selection of home
camera clips showing the family packing up and moving out.
He added that while it was hard to move because River
had such a strong bond to the house and surrounding land, his "number one
priority" is the wellbeing of his other two children - daughter London and
son Lincoln.
(23 Aug 2019) Taylor Swift: 'I kept quiet about
politics to protect myself'
Taylor Swift kept quiet about her political beliefs
because she was just trying to "protect my mental health".
The 29-year-old singer attracted criticism when she
refused to endorse a candidate in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, which
saw Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump battling for the White House.
But explaining her decision to keep her feelings
private, Taylor cited the difficult time in her life - following her mother's
cancer relapse and a new argument in her very public feud with Kanye West and
his wife Kim Kardashian.
"I was just trying to protect my mental health –
not read the news very much, go cast my vote, tell people to vote. I just knew
what I could handle and I knew what I couldn’t. I was literally about to
break," she told Britain's The Guardian newspaper. "(I felt) just
useless. And maybe even like a hindrance."
Adding that she now feels "really remorseful for
not saying anything”, Taylor told the publication she would otherwise have
endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
