Cody discovered Carín’s music more than a year ago and was so intrigued with the lyrics, melodies and his outstanding voice that it prompted an invitation to write together. Those plans led to meeting up in Las Vegas where they were also joined by co-writers Trent Willmon, Johan Sotelo, and Orlando Aispuro Meneses. “She Hurts Like Tequila” came out of that session and they were joined with co-writers Trent Willmon, Johan Sotelo, and Orlando Aispuro Meneses.

Watch as Cody and Carín talk about discovering each other’s music, the writing session and the tequila that may have been involved.

The new song comes on the heels of Cody’s highly successful, two-week #1 single “I’m Gonna Love You” with Carrie Underwood. The monster hit became the 4th #1 single of Cody’s career and his second double week #1. Yesterday Cody received seven nominations this morning for the upcoming 60th Academy of Country Music Awards. Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Dirt Cheap”), Single of the Year (“Dirt Cheap”), Music Event of the Year (“I’m Gonna Love You” with Carrie Underwood) and two nominations in the Visual Media category for “Dirt Cheap” and “I’m Gonna Love You.” The May 8th show will be hosted by Reba McEntire and returns exclusively on Prime Video live from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, TX, airing 8 p.m. EDT / 7 p.m. CDT / 5 p.m. PDT. Cody wraps up his overseas tour dates this weekend in Australia and will resume his Leather Deluxe Tour on April 25 & 26 at the CAJUNDOME in Lafayette, LA.
