The
Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes
traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
Andrea Bocelli
Bundles To The Top
Andrea Bocelli achieved his first No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200), as his new studio effort,
Si, debuted atop the tally. The set, which was released via Sugar/Decca Records
on Oct. 26, earned 126,000
equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 1, according to Nielsen Music.
Of that sum, 123,000
were in album
sales. The singer has charted on the tally since Dec. 20, 1997, when Romanza
debuted at No. 114, on its way to a No. 35 peak on Dec. 19, 1998. All told, Si
marks Bocelli’s ninth top 10 effort.
Bocelli
has come quite close to No. 1 previously: he’s peaked at No. 2 twice, with My
Christmas (five weeks at No. 2 in 2009) and Passione (one week at No. 2 in
2013).
Si
sold 123,000 copies (of its 126,000 total units), marking the singer’s best
sales week since My Christmas sold 284,000 copies over the Christmas week of
2009 (reflected on the chart dated Jan. 9, 2010). Si’s significant debut was
powered by sales generated by a concert
ticket/album sale redemption offer tied to a series of Bocelli shows in
2018 and early 2019.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an
album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA)
“sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.
Based on consumption units Luke Combs with THIS
ONE’S FOR YOU (River House/ Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) held
at No.1 (#24-23 Billboard 200; 3,500 sales; 74-week total 350,600) in his 74th frame
to top the chart for a 17th non-consecutive week No.1 on
Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart
(dated Nov.10).
Josh Turner with first faith-based set, I SERVE A SAVIOR (MCA Nashville/
Universal Music Group Nashville | Amazon UK - UK iTunes - Amazon.com), bowed at No.2 (#41
Billboard 200) with 15,000 equivalent
album units (13,900
in traditional
album sales).
Savior
also arrived at No. 2 on Top Christian Albums, marking the singer-songwriter’s
first appearance on the tally.
“I’m
floored. God is good,” Turner told Billboard. “I had no expectations going into
this project, other than to make a record I was proud to share. I’m especially
thankful my fans have embraced it. I want [listeners] to feel some hope and joy
that maybe they’ve never experienced before, even if they don’t understand
where it’s coming from exactly. I’d love for them to seek out truth.”
The
12-song Savior, which is Turner’s seventh studio set, marks his eighth Top
Country Albums top 10 (encompassing his seven LPs and a live release; three of
them reached No. 1). Before Savior, DEEP
SOUTH debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated April 1, 2017. Turner has also
led with Punching Bag in 2012 and sophomore album Your Man in 2006. His debut
LP, Long Black Train, peaked at No. 3 in 2004.
Chart History: DEEP
SOUTH (MCA Nashville/Universal Music Group Nashville), arrived at No.1 with
21,000 equivalent album units earned
(18,074 in pure sales; #18 Billboard 200) in
the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen Music. The 11-song set, which
included five tracks penned by Turner (four solely by himself), was produced by
Frank Rogers.
PUNCHING BAG entered atop the chart dated June 30,
2012 (with 44,907 sold).
He first
reigned with sophomore album YOUR MAN,
which debuted at No.1 on the Feb. 11, 2006-dated ranking (102,000 sold). Turner’s debut LP, LONG BLACK TRAIN, entered Top Country
Albums at No. 19 on the Nov. 1, 2003, chart and rolled to a No. 3 peak on April
10, 2004.
EVERYTHING IS FINE opened and peaked at No.3 on the Top
Country Albums survey dated Nov. 17, 2007 (84,000).
HAYWIRE bowed and peaked at No.2 (Feb. 27,
2010; 85,337; #5 Billboard 200); Icon: Josh Turner (No. 20, April 9,
2011; 5,000); and Live Across America,
a Cracker Barrel exclusive, which entered the Sept. 15, 2012, chart at No. 9
(8,000 sold) and reached No. 7 (Oct. 27, 2012).
While
Savior is Turner’s first full-fledged Christian-based album, he’s no stranger
to inspirational songs. “Long Black Train,” his second Hot Country Songs entry,
and “Me and God” (which hit Nos. 13 and 16 in 2004 and 2007, respectively),
appear in updated versions on the new set. The bulk of the album features
traditional hymns, which Turner became familiar with while growing up in South
Carolina, including “How Great Thou Art” (featuring Sonya Isaacs), “Amazing
Grace” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” plus the iconic “I Saw the Light,”
penned by Hank Williams. The title song, which Turner co-wrote in 2016, led to
the set’s creation.
