What is Amazon Music Unlimited?
Amazon Music Unlimited is Amazon’s premium music streaming service offering customers unlimited access to 50 million songs including the latest and greatest albums, and thousands of playlists and stations. Customers can stream or download songs to listen to offline – all ad-free.

Amazon Music Unlimited customers have access to exclusive voice control on Alexa-enabled devices¹. With Alexa, you can control your music with just your voice. Simply ask Alexa for any song or artist you want to hear.

If you don’t know exactly what you want to listen to, then you can ask Alexa to play something for a mood or occasion as well as from any era or genre.

Amazon Music Unlimited is, in fact, another music streaming service intended to coexist alongside, not replace, Prime Music.

It stands separate from Prime, so with its ‘open to all’ access and its 40 million song catalogue (Prime Music only has 2 million) it’s certainly a more credible Spotify rival.

Up to ten devices can use Amazon Music on one account, and music can be downloaded to play offline on the iOS, Android and Fire tablet platforms.

And Amazon has worked to further its service’s functionality, integration and intelligence with its voice-control assistant. For example, saying “Alexa, try Amazon Music Unlimited” gets you up and running with the service.

You can ask it to play certain songs, albums or artists (“Alexa, play Miranda Lambert” will shuffle her songs) or, for example, 80s pop.

You can even search by lyrics; say “Alexa, play the song with the lyrics ‘hello, is it me you’re looking for?’” and it complies – even if it does choose a cover rather than Lionel Richie’s original.

Garth Brooks was a huge exclusive for Amazon Music Unlimited - particularly for its American users but still fab for us Brits!

Amazon Music Unlimited vs Spotify:
Which offers better sound?
Amazon hasn't revealed the streaming bitrate quality of its library, but likely it will be 320kbps as this would put it on par with Spotify.

Spotify reserves the 320kbps streaming quality for its Premium tier (£9.99 / month). It's called high quality on computer and extreme quality on mobile.
