The
Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes
traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
BTS captured its third No.1 album in less than 12 months
on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart
(BB200), as MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA,
debuted atop the list. The seven-track set, which was released on April 12,
started with 230,000 equivalent
album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending April 19, according to
Nielsen Music — a career-best week for BTS. Of that sum, 196,000 were in album sales — another
career-high week for the South Korean pop group. Persona’s first-week units
included 8,000 in TEA units, and 26,000 in SEA units. The latter figure
translated to 37.4 million on-demand
audio streams for the set’s songs.
Albums
by Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan & The Rolling Stones were among the top-selling
Record Store Day-exclusive releases at indie stores, according to Nielsen
Music.
All
hail vinyl! Record Store Day drove record-breaking music sales figures yet
again, according to Nielsen Music.
The
12th annual indie music retailer celebration, staged on April 13, helped yield
827,000 vinyl albums sold in the U.S. in the week ending April 18, according to
Nielsen Music — a record for Record Store Day week, and the third-largest sales
week for vinyl albums since Nielsen Music started tracking sales in 1991.
The
top selling Record Store Day-exclusive album for the week ending April 18 at
independent record stores was Grateful Dead’s live archival acoustic concert
package Warfield: San Francisco, California, October 9th, 1980 / October 10th,
1980.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an
album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA)
“sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.
Luke Combs with THIS ONE’S FOR YOU (River House/Columbia Nashville | SMN) moved 2-1 (#11-14 Billboard 200) in its 98th
frame to head the summit for a 31st non-consecutive week.
Aaron Lewis with his third country LP,
10-track STATE I’M IN (Valory/BMLG |
Amazon UK - UK
iTunes - Amazon.com) debuted at No.2
on Top Country Albums (#18 Billboard 200) with 23,000 equivalent album units (22,000
in traditional album sales) in the week
ending April 18.
State, produced by Buddy
Cannon, includes 10 songs, six of which were co-written by Lewis, who
continues his segue to country after scoring initial success as founding member/lead
vocalist of Staind. The hardrock band has notched three No. 1 albums on the
Billboard 200.
CHART
HISTORY: State
marks Lewis’ first country album since SINNER, which became his second Top
Country Albums leader when it arrived at the apex on Oct. 8, 2016, with 39,199 copies sold (#4 Billboard
200; #1 Country), his sales best week in the country format to date.
He made his country debut with his 2011 EP, TOWN LINE (38,000 sold in its first week).
In 2012, his first solo LP, The Road, debuted and peaked at No. 7 (21,000 sold).
On STATE I’M IN Lewis is credited on writing six total, penning
three without collaborators. The
sole-authored group includes the title track, which has multiple meanings as
Lewis strives to realize his physical and mental states while juggling a
rigorous personal and professional schedule. The chorus unleashes: “Well I
don’t know what you’ve been told / All the whiskey in the world won’t save my
soul / I’ve done it all so where do / I begin / To fix all the messes and the
state I’m in / It’s hard, yeah it’s hard.”
Acclaimed songwriters Dan Tyminski (“Can’t Take Back”) and the late Keith Whitley (“Burnt the Sawmill Down”) also contributed to the
album. "I'm really good friends with
Keith's son, Jesse. And Jesse gave me this freaking cassette tape that had his
dad in a hotel room with an acoustic guitar, barely in tune, playing what
became ‘Burnt the Sawmill Down,’" Lewis says. "I took this demo tape
and we turned it into the song on the record. It was never anything. I heard
the song and we turned it into the song you hear on the record."
Bold
titles such as “God and Guns” continue to make headlines and have been
immediate crowd favorites as Lewis has been previewing them on his STATE I’M IN
TOUR.
"It's
always nice to put some new stuff in there and even better when people react to
it the way people have been reacting to these new songs," he said.
"They're hearing them for the first
time and reacting to them like they've known them. And the reaction to the
songs was like they were a song off their favorite record. That's always
motivating and hopeful."

I’m trying to do right now. I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet that this is
my fifth number one, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m beyond grateful."
