The U.K.’s first-ever
national Country music radio brand?
The UK’s first national
pop country music station?
WESTWOOD ONE’s national
Country morning program, “THE TY BENTLI
SHOW,” is being made available in the United Kingdom. Bauer Media is launching a territory-wide Country music
station, COUNTRY HITS RADIO, and has
selected the show as its only AMERICAN programming. BENTLI and co-hosts Chuck Wicks and Tricia “TJ” Jenkins will entertain listeners in PM drive time
across the U.K.
COUNTRY
HITS RADIO launches on FRIDAY, APRIL 5th in LONDON, BIRMINGHAM, MANCHESTER, LIVERPOOL, LEEDS, SOUTH YORKSHIRE,
LANCASHIRE, HUMBERSIDE, TYNE & WEAR, TEESSIDE, GLASGOW, EDINBURGH, TAYSIDE,
INVERNESS and AYR.
Other
presenters on the station will include Jennie Longdon, Baylen Leonard and Una
Healy (of THE SATURDAYS).
Said Bentli, “Every trip I’ve taken to EUROPE, I’ve sat for hours with a notepad and an AM/FM headset listening to radio at a table or park and taking notes with a fantasy in my head that maybe someday I’d have the chance to be a presenter in the U.K. Not only will I now be living that dream, I get to do it in a way that’s never been done! BAUER is spreading Country across the U.K., and I can’t wait to take our U.K. listeners behind-the-scenes to understand what makes their favorite artists tick, while also sharing hilarious moments, real-life insecurities, and triumphs of our daily experiences as they intertwine with the MUSIC CITY, and the stars that make the Country music we play!”
James Bronlow, Content Dir. for COUNTRY HITS RADIO,
said, “Since we have the responsibility of launching the U.K.’s first-ever
national Country music radio brand, it was vitally important to everyone at
COUNTRY HITS RADIO that we pull together a team that could represent the current
Country music scene, as well as authentically engage U.K. and world audiences
with original, entertaining, and market-leading content. This vision led us
directly to ‘THE TY BENTLI SHOW.’ After speaking to TY and the team at WESTWOOD
ONE and CUMULUS MEDIA, we knew this was the right fit. GREAT BRITAIN is going
to have one brilliant Country music party each weekday on their way home!”
Dolly Parton lovers may be in for a shock.
Inews extract country music comes of age on Friday with the launch of Britain’s first national radio station devoted to the heartland American genre made hip by Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves. With a playlist featuring Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Maren Morris, Country Hits Radio hopes to tap into a surge in UK popularity for the Nashville sound. Bauer Media, the company behind Absolute Radio and new classical service Scala, has identified an “untapped national opportunity”, with a reported 8.7m fans now listening to country music in the UK, supporting a burgeoning live festival and concert scene. Baylen Leonard, a music broadcaster from Tennessee who has been promoting the country cause for more than a decade in Britain, will be the first voice on air. He told i: “It’s like a dream for me. The time is definitely right for a national country station. The stigma of liking country has gone and more and more people are ‘coming out of the country closet.’” Read more at: InewsAhead of the launch of @countryhitsuk tomorrow at 10am, @theipaper takes a deep dive into the thinking behind the station and what audiences can look forward to with @HeyBaylen👇https://t.co/UtxR2DxIlv— Bauer Media Group UK (@bauermedia) 4 April 2019
