The American Music
Awards
(AMAs) is an annual American music awards show, created by Dick Clark in 1973
for ABC when the network's contract to air the Grammy Awards expired.

the AMAs website.

Contemporary Inspirational, Latin, EDM and Soundtrack, were some of the genres
alongside the awards for Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year Un-leashed
by T-Mobile and Collaboration of the Year.
This year, new categories included Tour of the Year and
Video of the Year, while Favorite Song

Billboard.com Here Are the Best and
Worst Moments at the 2016 AMAs….You gotta give it up to the American Music
Awards. We've seen a lot of award shows this year, but the 2016 AMAs were an
extremely eventful broadcast, filled with political moments, candid acceptance
speeches and knockout performances. From the debut of Drake's Apple ad to Green
Day's attack on Trump to incredible performances from The Weeknd, Twenty One
Pilots and more, the highlights far outweighed the low points... but there were
a couple of those, too….
Most of the awards were given out off-camera, but when all
was said and done, Justin Bieber and
Drake were the big winners at Sunday
night's 2016 American Music Awards.
Justin, who performed "Let Me Love You" live from
Bologna, Italy via satellite, scooped four trophies, including Favorite Male
Pop/Rock Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, for Purpose, and Favorite Pop/Rock
Song, for "Love Yourself."
Drake, who headed into the show with the most nominations
-- 13, an AMA record -- took home four, including Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist,
Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Song, for "Hotline Bling," and Favorite
Rap/Hip-Hop Album, for Views.

Even though she was nominated for Favorite Female Country Artist at Sunday night’s American Music Awards, Cam admitted she felt a tiny bit out of place on the red carpet, especially when she met the Broadway actress and singer who brought Frozen's Elsa to life - “I do feel like starstruck! Like, I just met Idina Menzel and I, like, didn't know what to say,” she laughs. “But it's like really fun! I don't have to perform today, so I get to just be like an audience member and get excited. That's the best of both worlds, where you don't have to be nervous about singing, but you're nominated and get good seats!”
✨ had so much fun at the #amas! Thanks to the @AMAs for nominating me & THANK YOU to my fans for voting!! We'll get it next year #camsters 💛 pic.twitter.com/qjG07W3irK— Cam (@camcountry) 21 November 2016
Even though Carrie Underwood ended up taking home the Female Vocalist trophy, Cam still has plenty to look forward to. She’s set to open for George Strait in Las Vegas next year, after she wraps up her Burning House Tour in early December.
Best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the
Broadway smash Rent, singer/actress Idina
Menzel made her solo debut in 1998 with the pop-soul effort Still I Can't
Be Still. She joined the cast for Wicked in 2003 and appeared on the recording
that same year, while 2004 saw her releasing the album Here.
Menzel's true pop breakthrough arrived in 2013 via the
Disney animated film Frozen and its
accompanying soundtrack. Frozen turned into a pop phenomenon in the winter of
2013-2014, thanks in part to the hit single "Let It Go," which was sung by Menzel; the single was an international
hit, peaking at five on the Billboard Hot 100 on its way to triple platinum
certification. She is one of the artists who performed in the 2016
“CMA Country Christmas” which comes
to ABC each Christmas season, hosted by Jennifer Nettles. It will air on Mon
Nov 28, 2016 at 8/7c on ABC.

It had Favorite Female Artist (Country) nominee Cam laughing in the audience at (2 min

model, 21, put on a fake Eastern European accent and a pulled Melania-style
pout to mock the soon-to-be First Lady in the wake of her recent plagiarism
row.
Co-host Gigi Hadid, meanwhile, did an impression of Melania Trump saying, "I love my husband Barack Obama and our children, Sasha and Malia," in reference to Mrs. Trump seemingly plagiarizing one of Michelle Obama's speeches earlier this year. Jay Pharoah did an impression of Trump talking about Bruno Mars, who opened the show: "I love Bruno Mars. I don't know what color his is so I can't deport him....Listen everyone, I love ‘Uptown Funk,’ it was so totally about me, it was originally called ‘Uptown Trump.’ Listen, I’m going to funk this country up, bigly.”

Gigi Hadid has now apologised to those offended by her impersonation of future U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. Her impression was met with criticism online, with one Twitter user calling it "disrespectful" and another suggesting it was a "little racist". Gigi has now responded to the backlash with a handwritten note, which she uploaded on Twitter, by telling her fans she held no ill will against Melania and was simply doing it for comedic value. “I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remained was done in good humor and with no bad intent,” Gigi wrote. “I too have been the center of a nationally televised comedy skit that poked fun at my actions, and was able to find the humor in it.” “I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run. I apologize to anyone that I offended and have only the best wishes for our country."
