Georgia native Lauren Alaina captured America’s hearts
when she competed on Season 10 of American Idol.
Her debut album WILDFLOWER (19/Interscope/Mercury), her
first proper LP, followed two top 10 American Idol collections, after she
placed second on the series’ 2011 season. It debuted and peaked at No.2 (69,000
sales) on Billboard Top Country Albums. Her debut album was the best-selling
female country debut since 2006 and youngest female artist to debut that high
on the Billboard charts since LeAnn Rimes 15 years previous.
With total sales of 221,000
Wildflower was ranked #10 for the Top-Selling Country Albums, Fourth-Quarter in
2011.
She released a 5 track
self-titled EP on October 2, 2015 (Mercury Nashville Interscope 19) selling
1,600 copies to debut and peak at #28 Top Country Albums (chart dated Oct 3,
2015)
Lauren released the
critically-acclaimed ROAD LESS TRAVELED
on January 27, 2017. The album landed on multiple end-of-year “Best Of” lists
including Billboard, Rolling Stone and Amazon, and it became the top-streamed
female country album release of the year. Praised as “full of life lessons and
uplift” (PEOPLE), the collection of 12 songs all written by the young star
includes Lauren’s first No. 1 hit, title track “Road Less Traveled."
ROAD LESS TRAVELLED
(19/Interscope/Mercury Nashville/Universal Music Group Nashville), arrived at No.3 on Top Country Albums (No.31
Billboard 200) with 13,000 equivalent album units. Of that sum 9,700 were pure
sales. The album had sold 34,500 copies in the US as of January 2018.
In the UK it made a debut at
#12 on the Official UK Country Album Top 20 (Week
Ending 02 March 2017) and climbed 12-7 the following week.
Alaina branched out of
emotional tunes to deliver “My Kinda People,” “Queen
of Hearts” and “Next Boyfriend,” which all keep it
light, fun and can serve as summertime anthems. “Think Outside the Boy”
and “Crashing
the Boys Club” appealed directly to female empowerment. She served as a
role model, reminding fans that there is life way beyond boys and being a
female doesn’t hold you back from doing anything.
In 2016 Alaina came out about
her battle with bulimia. She expresses what she went through in “Pretty”
as well as title track and single “Road
Less Traveled.” In both songs, as well as in real life, she came out triumphant.
The feel-good songs brought the album full circle showing how far she had come
since her days as an American Idol. - Sounds Like Nashille (Rating:
Positive) .
