The country and pop singer, songwriter and guitarist has sustained a career that has spanned several generations because of the kind of songs he has written and chosen to record.

He has remained as wholesome as the clean-cut country boy he was in the halcyon days of rock and roll. Like fine wine, Bobby Goldsboro has improved with age. As this unique collection demonstrates he has a wonderful way of getting to the ‘emotional centre of each and every song that he sings.

Compliled by journalist and former Maverick Magazine editor Alan Cackett he writes: I'm pleased to announce the release of the new 2-CD, 50-track compilation of WITH PEN IN HAND by Bobby Goldsboro on HumpHead Records on May 17 that I compiled and wrote the liner notes for. This set includes all of his hits from the 1960s through to the mid-1970s, the majority of which were self-penned, including the title song which was a major hit for Vicki Carr.
Bobby Goldsboro has enjoyed a lengthy career that has seen him straddle both pop and country. In the UK he is best-known for the saccharine-ladled Honey and the sedutive Summer (The First Time), whereas in America he also enjoyed earlier pop hits with See The Funny Little Clown, Little Things and It’s Too Late. He also became an unlikely star of the Northern Soul scene in the UK, with both It’s Too Late and Too Many People, being played extensively and becoming huge dance hits in the 1960s. The multi-talented performer has released more than 40 albums, chalked up 27 entries on the American pop charts and 24 on the country listings. In this collection we’ve included many of those hits that he recorded for United Artists between 1964 and 1976.
Bobby is also a prolific songwriter, and in addition to writing many of his own hits, his compositions have been recorded by such diverse artists as Aretha Franklin, John Denver, Paul Anka, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Dr. John, Brenda Lee, Conway Twitty, Della Reese and Bette Midler. He has written the music for several films and wrote the scripts, played all the musical instruments and voiced all the characters for the television series The Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon. In more recent years he has become an accomplished oil painter raising thousand of dollars for charity with his art exhibitions and through the sale of his paintings.
