traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
SuperM Bundles In at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart With 'The
1st Mini Album'
K-pop
supergroup SuperM debuts at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart
(BB200), as the act’s first effort, SuperM: The 1st Mini Album, enters atop the
tally. The set, which was released via SM/Capitol Records on Oct. 4, launched
with 168,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week
ending Oct. 10, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 164,000 were in album sales.
The
rest of the album’s first-week comprised less than 1,000 TEA units, and a
little over 3,000 SEA units. The latter sum equates to 4.9 million on-demand
audio streams during the tracking week for the seven tracks on the album.
(The album has seven tracks in total, but only five distinct songs. The additional
two tracks are instrumental versions of songs on the album.)
SuperM’s
handsome start was encouraged mightily by an array of permutations in which
to purchase the album, which was likely very appealing to the group’s fans,
since K-pop fans are often passionate about buying collectible physical
packages of an album. The 1st Mini Album had more than 60
merchandise/album bundles available to purchase through their official web
stores, a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with their
upcoming arena tour and eight different CD variants of the album (seven with a
different cover for each member, along with a group edition). The act also
staged a week-long pop-up shop in Los Angeles during street week, where fans
could buy the CD (as well as oodles of individual merch items).
Brantley
Gilbert earned his fourth top 10
effort, as FIRE & BRIMSTONE debuted at No. 9 with 36,000
equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, 28,000 were in album sales. He previously visited the top 10 with The
Devil Don’t Sleep (No. 2 in 2017), Just As I Am (No. 2, 2014) and Halfway to
Heaven (No. 4, 2011).

Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).

1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.
Valory's Brantley Gilbert has the top-selling country album with
Fire & Brimstone.
Brantley
Gilbert earns his third total and consecutive
Top Country Albums No.1 as FIRE & BRIMSTONE (Valory/Big
Machine Label Group) ignited with 36,000 equivalent album units (#9 New Entry
Billboard 200; 28,000
in album
sales).
Gilbert
wrote or co-wrote all 15 songs on his fifth studio album, which boasted the
single, “What Happens In A Small Town” featuring Lindsay Ell,
and collaborations with Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson, Lukas
Nelson and Colt Ford.
PROMOTION: With his new album Fire
& Brimstone hot off The Valory Music Co. presses, Georgia boy and
modern-day outlaw Brantley Gilbert headed to New York for multiple media
appearances and performances. Gilbert kicked off the week with the “iHeartCountry
Album Release Party with Brantley Gilbert,” an exclusive performance and Q&A
at the iHeartRadio Theater NY. Fans
could tune into a 60-minute live video stream on LiveXLive. The event was also
broadcast live on iHeartMedia’s Mainstream Country radio stations.
Gilbert
also appeared for an early morning performance on Fox & Friends (Oct
8). Gilbert celebrated the release of
Fire & Brimstone on October 4 with the men and women on Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Gilbert spent the day touring the base and
meeting different units while learning about all they do for our country.
Saying thank you the best way he knows how – Gilbert capped off the evening
with a free concert with the USO for service members and their families at the
WPAFB theater with an hour-plus long performance kicking off with “Kick It In
The Sticks,” “What Happens In A Small Town” and ending with “Bottoms Up.”

Dan
+ Shay and Justin Bieber’s “10,000 Hours”
(Warner Music Nashville/ WAR) roared from No. 40 to No. 1 (chart dated
Oct. 19), following the collaboration’s first full week of tracking.
The
coronation was the third for Dan + Shay (Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney) and the
first for pop superstar Bieber. The song was written by Dan + Shay, Bieber,
Jessie Jo Dillon, Jordan Reynolds and Jason”Poo Bear”Boyd, and produced by
Smyers.
“We
wrote this song about our wives, and we’re glad that it means as much to our
fans as it does to us,” Smyers told Billboard. “The reaction has been
incredible.”
Dan
+ Shay previously led Hot Country Songs with “Speechless” for 11 weeks starting
in October 2018, followed by predecessor “Tequila,” which, helped by pop
crossover airplay, topped the tally for a week in February.
The
40-1 flight for “Hours” marks the biggest jump to the penthouse since Jason
Aldean’s “Burnin’ It Down” flew 42-1 in its second frame (also after its
first full tracking week), beginning a 14-week reign.
“Hours,”
released on Oct. 4, hauled in 33.3 million U.S. streams in the week ending Oct.
10, according to Nielsen Music, and also debuted atop Country Streaming Songs.
It’s
the first title to enter at No. 1 since Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s
“Meant to Be” in December 2017, as well as the first leader on the chart for
both Dan + Shay and Bieber.
“Hours”
sold 53,000 downloads in the week ending Oct. 10, good for a No. 1 arrival on
Country Digital Song Sales, where it’s the third chart champ for the duo
(following “Speechless” and “Tequila”) and the first for Bieber.
“Hours” clocked in at No. 4 on the all-genre
Billboard Hot 100, marking Dan+Shay’s best rank; the pair reached a previous
No. 21 high with “Tequila.”
Maren
Morris added her sixth Hot Country
Songs top
10 as “The
Bones” (Columbia Nashville) bounded 20-6. Following the arrival
of a remix with singer-songwriter Hozier, the song sports gains of 399% to
15,000 sold and 60% to 6.9 million U.S. streams. On Country Airplay, it bumped
34-33 (5.6 million, up 7%).
Chris
Janson netted his third Hot Country
Songs top
10 as “Good Vibes”
(Warner Music Nashville/WAR) vaulted 13-8. It rose 4-2 on Country
Airplay, up 10% to 36.4 million in radio reach, while drawing gains of 19% to
4.7 million U.S. streams and 7% to 2,000 sold.
