Peermusic U.K. has
signed brothers Adam Purnell and Lawrence Purnell of Americana/Rock duo Foreign Affairs
to an exclusive global publishing deal, as announced today by Nigel Elderton, President, Europe & Managing Director,
peermusic U.K. and Dylan
Myerscough-Harris, A&R Manager, peermusic. “The entire team at peermusic is excited to give Adam and
Lawrence our full support. We are all fans of their music and we are thrilled
to welcome them to the peermusic family,” said Nigel Elderton.
“Foreign
Affairs are one of the most talented UK Americana/Rock acts I have seen, and I
see great potential for their upcoming work. It is a privilege to be part of this next phase in their
career and we look forward to big things ahead,” said Dylan Myerscough-Harris, A&R Manager, peermusic U.K.
“We’re so excited
to be joining the peermusic UK roster. Thank you to the team for sharing our
vision and for their belief in Foreign Affairs and in us as songwriters—we
can’t wait to start working together,” said Adam Purnell and Lawrence
Purnell of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign
Affairs is the musical collaboration of brothers Adam and Lawrence Purnell. The
duo broke onto the British music scene in 2015 with the release of “Sell My
Soul” which received support from BBC Radio and landed them a spot performing
at the Glastonbury Festival. In 2017, the duo continued to build momentum with
a series of prestigious support tours for the likes of Margo Price, Aaron
Watson, Frankie Ballard, Striking Matches, and Morgan Evans. Since then, they
have performed at Country2Country at The O2, Buckle & Boots Festival,
Summertyne Festival, The Great Escape Festival, and more.
The
powerful voice of Lawrence and the flawless harmonies from Adam, combined with
their intricate style of songwriting garnered them a nod for British Country
Music’s Duo Of The Year for 2018. That year also saw the release of The Old Fire Station which landed the
duo on a 22-date tour with Larkin Poe in 2019, performing in Germany, Italy,
France, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic and Belgium. Foreign
Affairs are currently working on new songs and will be performing during C2C’s
London Country Music Week on October 25. Visit their Website

Belles &
Gals REVIEW by Laura Klonowski (Rating: 4/5).. Sonically
it’s a very fresh sound that not many homegrown acts are releasing or making
right now, meaning Emma Moore is in her own lane within the ever-growing UK
country music scene which gives her room to grow and really build her own
following without being compared to any current British stars. ‘Durch Courage’
will have listeners turning the volume dial to the max and belting out the
catchy chorus from the off.

Increasing consumption for
the 12th week in a row, Tones And I’s Dance Monkey lengthened
its lead at the top of the singles chart. In its second week at the summit, the
track – the introductory hit for 19-year-old Toni Watson, from Melbourne –
achieved consumption of 70,713 units (10,689 paid-for sales + 60,024 streaming
units), a steep 40% increase week-on-week. That’s a 12-week high for a No.1
single, compared to the 48-week low we saw in the previous frame.
In January, it will be 10
years since Justin Bieber made his singles chart debut. This chart week, he
racked up hit No.57 as guest vocalist on 10,000 Hours (No.19,
20,011 sales units), a “pleasant country song” by Dan
+ Shay. The Nashville-based duo have had seven Hot 100 entries in
America but none previously here, where the highest charting of their three
albums – an eponymous 2018 effort – peaked at No.122.

(8 Oct 2019) Apple Is Officially Shutting Down
iTunes — But Song Downloads Aren’t Completely Dead
When Apple released the newest version of its MacOS
operating system on October 7th, it marked the end of the iTunes era.
iTunes is officially going away after close to two
decades in operation. The company has moved its functionality into 3 different
apps: Apple Music, Podcasts and Apple TV.
The shutdown shouldn’t shock anyone. In June, Apple
announced that it was shutting the app down for good. The company said at the time that the app was
simply too cluttered. For years, users
have been complaining about iTunes ‘bloatware’ as piles of different media
categories kept fattening the platform.
Still, iTunes offered a central hub to the content the
company offered. Now, with the release of Catalina, users will have to listen
to music in Music, watch videos in TV, and listen to podcasts in Podcasts.
Those with large MP3 libraries collected from the
glory days of iTunes can still listen to their songs through Music, despite the
app’s focus on music streaming. What’s more, the iTunes Store still exists for
those not subscribed to Music, so people can still purchase individual songs if
for some reason they do not want to use a streaming service.

biggest studio albums of the 21st century for National Album Day
To mark National Album Day on the Saturday 12th October, Paul Gambaccini
presented a very special Pick of the Pops, from 1pm-3pm on BBC Radio 2 and BBC
Sounds, counting down the 40 biggest studio albums of the millennium so far.
The chart, compiled by the Official Charts Company, is
based on the number of physical sales as well as digital downloads and streams
since the 1st January 2000.
Adele’s 2011 album ‘21’ is Number One in the chart,
with her 2015 album ‘25’ coming in at Number Three, and a total of three albums
ranking within the Top 40 most popular records of the 21st century.
Ed Sheeran also has two albums, ‘X’ and ‘÷’, in the
Top 10. James Blunt, Michael BublΓ©, Dido, David Gray, Leona Lewis, and Amy
Winehouse all feature in the Top 10, which is 50% male/female.
Over 70% of artists featured in the Top 40 and all
artists in the Top Five are British.
Jeff Smith, Head of Music, Radio 2 and 6 Music says:
“We are delighted to reveal the nation’s 40 favourite albums of the millennium
here on Radio 2 for National Album Day 2019 and it’s heartening to see so many
British artists in the chart, proving that home-grown music is still as popular
as ever. ”

REVIEWS
(13 Oct 2019) Entertainment Focus by Pip Ellwood-Hughes (Rating:
5/5): Chris Lane The O2 Arena, London live
review ...Making his London live
debut last night at The O2 Arena, Lane performed a 40-minute set that felt like
a headline show rather than a support slot. Opening with his huge hit Fix, Lane
immediately connected with the audience, working the stage like a seasoned pro.
His joy at being on stage in the UK was evident and I have to say it’s the
busiest crowd I’ve seen at a show during a support act for a long, long time. ......Last night was a strong case for Chris Lane to
return to the UK for a headline tour and it felt like an audition for C2C:
Country to Country.
Confident, charismatic and engaging, High-energy and
strong vocals, Performed like it was his headline show and smashed it
