London, Tuesday 24 July - Breakthrough Southern
indie singer-songwriter Erin Rae
today announced she will celebrate her critically acclaimed new album ‘Putting
On Airs’ with a hotly anticipated UK and European tour including solo dates
including London’s The Social on Thursday 30 August and a free lunch time show
at on Wednesday 29 August at Rough Trade East before she supports His Golden
Messenger at Islington Assembly Hall (full dates listed below). Following her
UK tour Erin will return to the USA for her Fall USA tour supporting artists
including: Jenny Lewis, Iron & Wine and Michael Nau. For more information see below and please visit: https://www.erinraemusic.com/tour/
Rae stated, “All of these artists are musicians
I truly admire and have listened to for years. I just am thrilled to get the
opportunity to join them and meet their audiences.”
Rae also premiered the release of her LR Baggs
acoustic video for “The Real Thing” with Brooklyn Vegan - available here:
On the track Rae stated, “The real thing”
is about our responses to our environment - In years of therapy and recovery of
different kinds—not to mention growing up in a sober household with parents
that each spent some time working in a drug and alcohol treatment setting—I’ve
learned a lot about how who we become as adult is shaped in response to our
home environment and what our parents were like. While on a run one day, I was
looking at these beautiful tall trees, and observed how they were all reaching
around each other to get their own spot in the sun. It reminded me of how so
much of my personality has developed to try and get my human needs met. I read
an interview with Gene Wilder a while back, where he recounted how his mother
was sick most of his life. He talked about a pivotal moment in his life, when
his mother’s doctor told him that he had to make her smile to keep her well.
It’s fascinating that his immense talents arose out of a need to keep his
mother alive and stay connected to her. Most of us aren’t told explicitly that
if we behave a certain way, we will get something we need from our parents or
teachers, but as little children we learn what works to get a certain response,
which carries over into adulthood. I’m really goofy to this day because I grew
up loving to make my sister laugh.
Known for her incredible voice that is often
compared to artists as diverse as Karen Carpenter and Feist, Rae started her
career as an in-demand backing vocalist in Nashville for artists like Margo
Price, Andrew Combs and Anderson East. Rae recently stepped out into the
spotlight herself, and her incredible new record ‘Putting On Airs’ has become
one of the most talked about indie releases of this year. Rising fast, she has
also recently made her debut at the Ryman in Nashville, performing twice in two
days, alongside friends Margo Price and Hiss Golden Messenger and has landed
millions of plays on Spotify for her music gaining the attention of the world’s
music critics including Uncut Magazine (8/10 album review), The Sunday Times,
Guardian and Independent in the UK as well as Rolling Stone, Billboard
Magazine, Paste, Nylon, Boston Globe, NPR, American Songwriter, Noisey and many
more in the USA.
