The
Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes
traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
Tyler, the Creator's 'Igor' Debuts at No.1 on Billboard 200 Albums
Chart
Tyler,
the Creator
nabbed his first No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200),
as Igor debuted atop the list dated June 1. The set started with just
under 165,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 23,
according to Nielsen Music -- the second-biggest week of 2019 for a hip-hop
album. Of that sum, 74,000 were in album sales. Igor is Tyler, the Creator’s fifth studio
effort and was released via Columbia Records on May 17.
DJ
Khaled’s Father of Asahd debuted at No. 2 scoring the artist his eighth top 10
effort. The star-filled set launches with 137,000 equivalent album units, of
which 35,000 were in album sales, 7,000 in TEA units and 95,000 in SEA units.
The latter sum equates to 123.2 million on-demand audio streams for the
album’s tunes in its first week – which also makes the set the most-streamed
album of the week.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an
album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA)
“sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.
Luke
Combs with debut LP, THIS ONE’S
FOR YOU (River House/ Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville), logged its
36th week at No.1 on Top Country Albums (#7-14 Billboard 200; 25,000
equivalent album units, down 9%) and moved into a
tie
for the fourth-longest reign in the chart’s 55-year history with Dixie Chicks’
1999 album Fly. It also breaks out of a tie for the most weeks at No.1 for an album
released this century, passing the 35-week commands of Taylor Swift’s Fearless
(beginning in 2008) and the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack (2001).
The
only titles with more time on top than This One’s for You and Fly among all
sets: Shania Twain’s Come On Over (50 weeks, starting in 1997), Randy Travis’
Always & Forever (43 weeks, 1987) and Garth Brooks’ No Fences
(41 weeks, 1990).
There's
a new kid in town, and he has taken the pole position on the strength of two
songs in the Year To Date top 5. Columbia's Luke Combs has made his mark with
"Beautiful Crazy" and "She Got The Best Of
Me" in the first half of 2019, placing him atop the list of Top 10
Airplay Artists thus far. Additionally, that effort has been good enough to
pull Columbia ahead of reining Label Of The Decade, Capitol, in the chart share
derby.
Dan + Shay with their self-titled album (Warner
Bros./Warner Music Nashville) held at No.2 (#35-33 BB200) in their 48th
frame.
Morgan Wallen with IF I KNOW ME (Big Loud Digital EX) rose 4-3 (#51-50 BB200) in his 51st
frame.
Chris Stapleton with the 212-week TRAVELLER (MERCURY/ UMGN) fell 3-4 (#49-56 BB200).
Former
No.1 Maren
Morris with GIRL (Columbia
Nashville/ Sony Music Nashville [SMN]) held at No.5 (#52-61 Billboard 200) in her 11th week.
Former No.1 Kane Brown with sophomore album, entitled EXPERIMENT climbed 8-6 (#74-64 BB200;
28 chart weeks) as his self-titled album rebounded 11-10 (#86-84
BB200; 129 weeks).
Former 6-week non-consecutive week No.1 Jason Aldean with REARVIEW
TOWN (Macon/Broken Bow Records) held at No.7 (#69-66 BB200) in his 58th week.
Florida Georgia Line with CAN’T SAY I AIN’T COUNTRY (Big Machine Label Group) rose 10-8 (#79-80
BB200) in their 14th week.
Former
No.1 Kacey
Musgraves with GOLDEN HOUR (MCA
Nashville) fell 6-9 (#55-81 BB200) in her 55th week.
Outside the
Top 10
Former
No.1 Carrie Underwood with CRY PRETTY fell 9-14 (#77-116 BB200) in her 36th week.
Former
No.1 George Strait with HONKY TONK
TIME MACHINE
(MCA Nashville | UMGN) fell 13-18 (#109-172
BB200) in his 8th week.
Former No.1 Brooks & Dunn with REBOOT (Arista Nashville/Sony Music Nashville) fell 19-22 (#171 – off the Billboard 200) in their 7th frame.

On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart - which
blends:
a) All-format airplay, as monitored by BDS
b) Sales, as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan and
c) Streaming, (tracked by
Nielsen BDS from such services as Spotify, Muve, Slacker, Rhapsody, Rdio and
Xbox Music, among others) according to BDS it results in:
Blake Shelton with “God’s
Country” (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) topped Hot Country Songs
for a second week and became his first leader on Country Streaming
Songs. His 14th Hot Country Songs No. 1 — and first since “Sure Be Cool If You
Did” in 2013 — flies by 16% to 12.6 million U.S. streams in the week ending May
23. He performed the track on NBC’s Red Nose Day Special (May 23), a benefit to
help eradicate childhood poverty.
“Country” also rules Country Digital Song Sales for a
seventh week (25,000 sold, down 2%). On Country Airplay, it bumped 10-8, up 11%
to 26.2millionimpressions.
Lady Antebellum with “What
If I Never Get Over You” (Big Machine Label Group) arrived at No.15
marking the act’s best career start on the survey. It surpasseed “Bartender,”
which entered at No.19 on June 7, 2014, and reached No. 4 that August.
“Never,” Lady A’s first single for BMLG Records, was
released May 17. In its first full week of activity, it corralled 4 million
streams and sold 21,000 downloads, the latter
sum good for a No. 2 entrance on Country Digital Song Sales, where it’s the band’s
16th top 10

Kane Brown with “Good

week on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, increasing by 6% to 39.9 million
audience impressions in the week ending May 27, according to Nielsen Music.
On the airplay-, streaming- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart, it
lifted 5-3, reaching a new peak. Brown’s fourth consecutive and total Country
Airplay leader completes his quickest trip to No.1. He first led with “What
Ifs,” featuring Lauren Alaina, on Oct. 28, 2017, in its 35th week; followed by
“Heaven,” which took 28 weeks to reign on May 19, 2018, for its first of two
weeks on top; and “Lose It,” which led the list dated Dec. 8, 2018, in its 26th
week.
Brown co-wrote the track with Shy Carter, Brock Berryhill, Taylor
Phillips and Will Weatherly. “I am so grateful to my fans who have always
been here for me,” said Brown.” I’m proud to share this with my
cowriters and close friends. We never take these moments for granted.”
“Good” is the sophomore single, after “Lose It,” from Brown’s second
full-length, Experiment, which debuted atop both the all-genre Billboard 200
and Top Country Albums charts dated Nov. 24, 2018, with 126,000
equivalent album units.
Maren Morris achieved her
fifth Country Airplay top 10
with
“Girl” (Columbia Nashville), which moved 14-10 (up 15% to 21
million impressions). Her history on the chart includes two No.1s: Thomas
Rhett’s “Craving You,” featuring Morris (July 2017) and “I Could Use a Love Song” (January
2018).
Morris joins Kelsea Ballerini, whose “Miss Me More” (Black River) pushed
5-3 (29.8 million, up 6%) in the Country Airplay top 10, marking the first time
that two female artists have shared space in the region since Sept. 1, 2018,
when Jason Aldean’s “Drowns the Whiskey,” featuring Miranda Lambert, led for
its second of two weeks and Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty” ranked at No. 9.
Ballerini and Morris combine for the first instance of two solo women unaccompanied
by any co-billed acts charting simultaneously in the Country Airplay top 10
since they teamed up on Jan. 27, 2018, with “Legends” and “I Could Use a Love
Song,” at Nos. 7 and 9, respectively.
