In the midst of promoting his memoir, Forever and Ever, Amen, Randy Travis gives fans a reason to celebrate with his first music release in six years. “One In A Row”, is a song about missing someone as much as the world has missed the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s one-of-a-kind baritone since a massive stroke in 2013 affected his ability to perform. (3 June 2019) Business In Front, Horses In Back
Here’s what’s expected as the faithful descend on the country music mecca for the week’s CMA Fest: Four straight days of record yee-hawin’ from record crowds in record heat. Instead of listing all of the performers, picture a country artist.

He’s performing. And her. Yep, Lil Nas X, too. Watching are visitors from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and 36 countries. With all that going for it, CMA could simply stick with a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” formula, but CEO Sarah Trahern and her team continue to move the event forward. Some of this year’s more significant changes will be felt, if not always seen. Building on last year’s heightened security measures – which included limiting the size of bags allowed and requiring they be see-through – Trahern says attendees may need extra time to enter free stages. “Two places where changes will be impactful are the Budweiser Forever Country Stage and the Chevy Breakout Stage at Walk of Fame Park,” she says. “We’ll now have controlled entrance points and security wanding.” Which brings up another change more felt than seen. “The CMA Close Up Stage has Trisha Yearwood on Thursday, Old Dominion on Friday, Chris Young on Saturday and Tracy Lawrence on Sunday,” she says. “One of my personal favorites
is the Ken Burns country music panel, where the film’s writer and producer Dayton Duncan will lead a discussion with Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, Kathy Mattea and Ketch Secor.” – CMA Fest Line Up

(29 May 2019) Extremely rare Beatles performance among 'lost' footage to be shown for the first time in more than 50 years
Long-lost performances of major international artists including The Beatles, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones and The Hollies was shown for the first time in more than 50 years at Birmingham City University on Saturday 1 June.
The clips feature Top of the Pops performances from 1966 and will be revealed to an audience at a special day-long public event following the discovery by TV experts Kaleidoscope.
The footage was believed to have been lost forever, until David Chandler, a music enthusiast, contacted Kaleidoscope after seeing recent publicity on BBC television about another Beatles discovery.
In April 2018 the BFI and Kaleidoscope launched a campaign to find the Top 100 Lost TV shows. Number 2 on that list was Top of the Pops. More than 200 lost performances were donated on videotape by one collector, and then David Chandler handed a series of 8mm film reels to Kaleidoscope, which specializes in finding 'lost' video and TV shows, previously believed to have been wiped from archives and deleted forever.
Kaleidoscope's experts digitally remastered the footage and enhanced the sound to revitalise the on-stage performances, which includes major hits including Birmingham's Spencer Davis Group, as well The Troggs and the Small Faces.

(29 May 2019) Warner Bros. Records evolves into Warner Records
61 years after the founding of Warner Bros. Records, the renowned label is being rebranded as Warner Records across the globe. This marks the latest step in the company’s evolution, following Aaron Bay-Schuck joining as U.S. Co-Chairman & CEO in October 2018, Tom Corson being appointed U.S. Co-Chairman & COO in January 2018, and Phil Christie being named President of the UK label in 2016. The name change also follows the U.S. company’s recent move to a new, state-of-the-art headquarters in downtown LA’s Arts District.

Warner Records has unveiled a bold new logo, with an artful simplicity and impactful typography that are ideally suited to the digital world. The circular icon – suggesting a record, a sun, and a globe - is a nod to the label’s past, present, and future. The openness of the design gives it the flexibility to embrace all Warner Records artists and all genres of music around the world.

(2 June 2019) Rollingstone  Apple Is Finally Killing iTunes Farewell to a clunky but world-shattering icon
It’s the end of a music era. Nearly two decades after launching iTunes and ripping up the retail-store model of album purchases, Apple is ready to retire the iconic product, according to Bloomberg. During the software keynote at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California next Monday, the tech giant is set to replace iTunes with standalone music, television and podcast apps.
The move, which has been rumored for years now, will align Apple’s media strategy across the board: iPhones and iPads already offer separate Music, TV and Podcast apps in lieu of the centralized iTunes app that lives on Macs and Macbooks. Users can expect the new Music app to offer some of the same functionalities that iTunes currently does — such as purchasing songs and syncing phones — just with a sleeker interface that’s free of the outdated and oft-bemoaned features of the heritage product, and more closely bundled with streaming service Apple Music.

Spice Girls fans have vented their fury over overcrowding and disorganization which reportedly led to crushes at their gig in Coventry, England.
The iconic girl group played the first of two planned shows at the city's Ricoh Arena on Monday, as part of their Spice World - 2019 Tour.
However, fans complained they were left stranded outside in a car park, causing them to miss support act Jess Glynne. Others angrily claimed that, due to the delays, concertgoers were rushed through turnstiles without bag checks, creating dangerous and frightening crushes.

For the first time in its 20+ year history, Music City’s Nissan Stadium hosted a live show featuring a singular artist, sans opening act, as multi-Platinum superstar Eric Church is set to make his stadium-headlining debut Saturday, May 25. As usual, the country music renegade is doing it his own way.
In keeping with all previous dates on the Double Down Tour, Church alone will perform three hours of music spanning his entire six-album catalog. Remarking on the true uniqueness of this touring approach, Pitchfork declares that he “proves himself the rare star trying to change the game from the inside” while Stereogum notes that he is “at the top of his genre because he breaks its rules in big, exciting, arena-filling ways.”
Last time a Church tour stopped in Nashville was indeed an “arena-filling” night, as he set an attendance record at Bridgestone Arena with 19,000 fans in the building.

UPDATE: Eric Church’s Marathon Solo Performance At Nissan Stadium Sets New Attendance Record: 56,521
After delaying the show open to allow the new record-setting concert crowd of 56,521 fans into Nissan Stadium, multi-Platinum superstar Eric Church appeared at the end of his 50-yard-line catwalk beneath a single spotlight to set the tone for the marathon Saturday night ahead. Adorned in his trademark aviators, t-shirt and a Gibson guitar, Church opened his first headlining stadium show with “Drowning Man” before meeting powerhouse backup singer Joanna Cotten center stage for “Country Music Jesus” and what could have been the official mantra of the evening: “That’s Damn Rock & Roll.”
“I came here 15 years ago and I had dreams,” he explained of Nashville to his loyal Church Choir, “but I’m not sure I could dream this big. Tonight is a special night for me and you know this if you’ve been to any of our shows on the Double Down Tour… I’m gonna give you everything I’ve got all night long, and tonight is going to be a revival. I promise you.”

The third night of opening weekend, Atlanta Journal Constitution proclaimed, “this is a well-produced nostalgic romp featuring a setlist stacked with singalongs, an effective stage show (sharp lighting, major video screen action) and a band that sounds record perfect,” also noting that “what this return to the road will demonstrate for those who have been out of the Hootie orbit [as the band continued to play select annual concerts] is that the hits still hold up.

COUNTRY GOSSIP
(28 May 2019) Carrie Underwood's tour introducing kids to dad's Canadian homeland
Country superstar Carrie Underwood is making the most of having her family join her on tour by introducing her sons to their father's Canadian roots.
The singer is currently on the North American leg of her Cry Pretty Tour 360 with her husband Mike Fisher and their boys Isaiah, four, and four-month-old Jacob in tow, and the trek has given the couple the opportunity to explore more of the retired ice hockey star's homeland as a family.
On Sunday (26May19), Carrie posted a photo of the packed crowd at her weekend gig in Vancouver on Instagram, and captioned the image, "Cool shot of the stage from last night's show in Vancouver...the first of our run of shows in Canada...
"This is Jacob's first big tour of the Great White North! I'm glad the kiddos are getting to learn more about where they come from! #MarriedToACanadian #OCanada #CryPrettyTour360".

(2 June 2019) Thomas Rhett ready for more kids
Country singer Thomas Rhett is ready to dive back into new fatherhood and make his wife's dreams of having a big family come true.
The couple found itself juggling two young daughters in the summer of 2017, after Rhett's wife Lauren fell pregnant while they were in the process of adopting a one-year-old child from Uganda.
They have since adjusted to life with three-year-old Willa Gray and her baby sister Ada James, who turns two in August (19), and although Rhett admits their family life can be a little hectic, he would love to give his girls a new sibling.
"When you're banking on one and then all of a sudden two happens, you're like, 'We basically had twins!'" he smiled on U.S. breakfast show Today. "It was tough (to adjust), but now we're like, 'Man, let's have some more. Two's good, let's go to three.'"
The Die a Happy Man star's comments emerge months after 29-year-old Rhett revealed Lauren had set her sights on expanding their family three more times within the next five years.
"Lauren wants to have five kids before she turns 34. That is her plan," he told Access Hollywood last summer. "So, you can probably expect three new babies in the next five years. She's the boss."
At the time, the couple was undecided about whether the next baby would be biological or adopted.

R.I.P
(29 May 2019) Longtime ASCAP VP Ralph Murphy Mourned
Songwriter, publisher, producer and artist Ralph Murphy passed away Tuesday (May 28) following a brief illness. He was 75. A longtime ASCAP executive, he also served as NSAI President, head of the Nashville chapter of the Recording Academy and a national NARAS trustee. Among his successes as a songwriter were Jeannie C. Riley's "Good Enough To Be Your Wife," Crystal Gayle's "Half The Way," Ronnie Milsap's "He Got You," and Kathy Mattea's "Seeds." A British-born Canadian, Murphy was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012 and honored with the CMA's Jo Walker-Meador International Achievement Award in 2011.

Willingly opening doors for newcomers to Nashville, the British-born Canadian, who had lived in Music City since the late 70s and was known to some as "Da Murph," produced platinum-selling albums for April Wine, and wrote or co-wrote songs that were covered by Randy Travis, Shania Twain, Sir Cliff Richard, Ray Price and more. He was publisher and co-owner with Roger Cook of Picalic Group of Companies.
"RALPH always fought for what was best for all songwriters and I will miss his unique perspective and incredibly valuable insights,” said ASCAP CEO Elizabeth Matthews. “He was a loyal ambassador for songwriters whose heart was always in the right place. All of us at ASCAP have lost a great friend and one of our best advocates. We will miss his storytelling, his humor and the warmth and love he shared with so many.”
He also authored the book “Murphy’s Laws of Songwriting,” and was a frequent guest speaker on the topic of songwriting at colleges, universities and industry organizations. He would have celebrated his 40th year as an ASCAP songwriter in September.

A few weeks ago, Murphy was in Toronto at Canadian Music Week, chatting with friends and admirers, who were often one and the same.  Not too long before that, on April 1, he was in town to accept a special achievement award from The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada at the SOCAN Awards "for his prodigious achievements in songwriting and his lifetime commitment to passing along his great wisdom to aspiring music creators."
MURPHY is survived by his wife Louise Murphy, his children Shawn Murphy and Kerry Murphy, and two grandchildren.

TRIBUTES
Patricia Conroy wrote: With all my heart hurting I will say goodbye and publicly thank Ralph Murphy for his kind and generous nature, his ease with a smile or a story, and his great advice.
We wrote together when I first moved to Nashville. He made me feel so special in a town crowded with talent.
My favourite memories of Ralph are chatting about life in a bar... He always had time. I wish we had more. Rest in Peace Ralph Murphy
Michelle Wright wrote: Bear with us as we all come to terms with the passing of Ralph Murphy. There may be a lot of posts because he meant a lot to so many of us. This is one of mine and Marco's favorite songs that he co-wrote with Pat Alger "seed by Kathy Mattea
