Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of July 6, 2019)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

The Raconteurs bundle in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart
The Raconteurs rock at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart as the band landed its first leader with 12-track HELP US STRANGER (Third Man Records |Amazon UK - iTunes ).
The set, released via Third Man Records on June 21, debuted with 88,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 27, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 84,000 were in album sales.
Overall, Help Us Stranger’s opening frame of 88,000 equivalent album units is comprised of a little more than 84,000 in album sales, less than 1,000 in TEA units and 3,000 in SEA units.
Help Us Stranger’s debut unit sum was supported by a concert ticket/sale redemption offer with The Raconteurs’ summer tour, as well as solid sales at independent music stores and strong vinyl LP sales of the album (not surprising, as White and his Third Man Records company are supporters of both indie record stores, as well as vinyl).

At No. 2 on the new Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200), Lil Nas X arrived with his debut effort, 7. The eight-track effort boasts his phenomenally successful single “Old Town Road,” both in its original form and its Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted remix version.
7 started with 77,000 equivalent album units earned, of which 4,000 were in album sales (all from digital downloads, as the set was not available in any physical format). The release was driven largely by streaming activity, having collected 8,000 in TEA units and a sizable 66,000 SEA units. The latter sum equates to 90.4 million on-demand audio streams of its songs during the tracking frame, which makes the effort the most-streamed album of the week.
“Old Town Road” has spent the last 12 weeks at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart (as of the most recently published list, dated June 29). It’s just the 20th single to spend at least 12 weeks at No. 1 since the chart launched in 1958.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of July 6, 2019)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Ranked #6 on Country Album Sales and #37 on all-genre Top Album Sales based on consumption units Luke Combs with THIS ONE’S FOR YOU still held at No.1 (#13-11 Billboard 200) to top the summit for a 39th non-consecutive week.
Combs’ new five-track EP THE PREQUEL (River House/Columbia Nashville/ Sony Music Nashville) fell 2-3 (#19-27 BB200).

Nelson notched his record-extending 52nd Top Country Albums top 10, padding his lead over Dolly Parton, who is in second place with 44. Loretta Lynn and George Strait follow with 41 each. Longtime Nelson collaborator Buddy Cannon produced the 11-song set.
Alongside new compositions and the title track, the collection features covers of songs including Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are,” Mac Davis’ “It’s Hard to Be Humble” with Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson, and Guy Clark’s “Immigrant Eyes” and “My Favorite Picture of You.”
SIRIUSXM celebrated Willie Nelson’s 86th birthday on its WILLIE’S ROADHOUSE channel. “Willie Nelson’s 4-Day Birthday Weekend” aired on April 27-30, 2019.  During the air times, Willie’s Roadhouse featured Nelson’s new song, “Ride Me Back Home”

FALLING SHORT of Top 50:
On the Country Album Sales list (pure sales; old methodology)

Buddy and Julie Miller with 14-track BREAKDOWN ON 20TH AVE (South/New West Records | Amazon UK - iTunes) made a debut at No.8.
Rolling Stone calls Buddy & Julie, "two of Americana music’s most influential artist-songwriters."

Jim Lauderdale with 12-track FROM ANOTHER WORLD (Yep Roc Records | Amazon UK - iTunes ) made a debut at No.27.

From Another World (Yep Roc) Lauderdale’s 32nd studio album reunites him with the team behind last year’s Time Flies, including co-producer/bassist Jay Weaver and engineer David Leonard, and boasts a mix of 12 solos and collaborations with artists like Melba Montgomery, Buddy Cannon and Logan Ledger.
The ten songs contained within, all written or co-written by Jim, are his antidote to the anger, divisiveness of today’s world, a world full of bad news and folks yelling at each other on CNN. This is music from another world, a world of empathy, love, forgiveness and humility. Where people find freedom through togetherness, where they struggle to change for the better, where country music still cries with the sound of pedal steel guitar and psychedelic-tinged lyrics flow through aching indelible melodies.

Reckless Kelly with 15-track BULLETPROOF LIVE (No Big Deal Records | Amazon UK - iTunes  ) made a debut at No.28.

Glen Campbell with THE LEGACY (1961-2017) (Capitol Nashville | Ume) made a debut at No.30.

Chase Rice Is Most-Added With 'Lonely If You Are'
Kudos to Carson James, Lee Adams, Shelley Hargis Gaines and the Broken Bow crew on landing 36 adds for the Chase Rice single “Lonely If You Are”.  The song topped the "Most Added" board this chart week.
It follows Rice’s two-week chart topper, “Eyes On You,” which became his first #1 as an artist in May.
The song, praised by Sounds Like Nashville for its “steamy romantic groove,” begins simply with a memorable acoustic riff and leads into Rice speaking directly to his potential love-interest.

As The Boot describes it, “While Rice and the object of his affections may not be official just yet, the song’s lyrics assure her to take her time, and that he’ll be around any time she decides she’s ready to take the next step toward romance.”
Produced by Chris DeStefano and co-written by Rice with Lindsay Rimes and Hunter Phelps, “Lonely If You Are” is the first taste of new music from Rice and as he explains, “it's been the front-runner to follow ‘Eyes On You’ since the day we wrote it.”
Rice used his headlining slot at Ascend Amphitheater during CMA Fest to announce the single last month as he performed it live for the first time, much to the delight of fans who had been treated to acoustic teasers on Rice’s Instagram leading up to its announcement.
