The
Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes
traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
Chris Brown Earns Third No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart as 'Indigo'
Bundles to the top.
Chris
Brown notched his third No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200),
as his new effort INDIGO launched atop the list with 108,000
equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 4, according to Nielsen
Music. Of that sum, 28,000 were in album sales.
Indigo’s
first week was supported largely by streaming activity, as the set tallied 76,000
SEA units, which equates to 97.95 million on-demand audio streams for
the set’s lengthy track list of 32 songs. It’s no surprise that Indigo was also
the most-streamed album of the week in terms of total on-demand audio streams
earned for its tunes. (Comparably, the album with the second-most streams in
the tracking week, Lil Nas X’s 7, tallied 74.8 million on-demand audio streams
from seven songs. More on Lil Nas X in a moment…)
Of
Indigo’s total first-week launch, 28,000 of the sum were in album sales, supported by a concert
ticket/album sale redemption offer with Brown's upcoming tour, along
with merchandise/album bundles sold via his official website.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from
an album = 1 track equivalent album
(TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams
from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.
Ranked
#2 on Country Album Sales and #39 on all-genre Top Album Sales based on
consumption units Luke Combs with
THIS ONE’S FOR YOU remained at No.1 (#11-13 Billboard 200) to top
the summit for a 40th non-consecutive week.
Combs’
new five-track EP THE PREQUEL (River House/Columbia Nashville/ Sony
Music Nashville) held at No.3 (#27-29 BB200).
Dan + Shay with their self-titled album (Warner
Bros./Warner Music Nashville) moved 4-2 (#29-22 BB200) in their
54th frame.
Former
No.1 Thomas
Rhett with CENTER POINT ROAD ( Valory Music/ Big Machine Records | Amazon UK - iTunes )
rose 5-4 (#32-34 Billboard 200) in his fifth week.
Morgan Wallen with IF I KNOW ME (Big Loud Digital EX) rose 6-5 (#41-35
BB200) in his 57th frame.
Chris Stapleton with the 217-week TRAVELLER (MERCURY/ UMGN) climbed 8-6 (#54 non-mover BB200).
Former 6-week non-consecutive week No.1 Jason Aldean with REARVIEW
TOWN (Macon/Broken Bow Records) rose 9-7 (#58-62 BB200) in his
64th week.
Former No.1 Kane Brown with sophomore album, entitled EXPERIMENT rose 11-9 (#70-69 BB200;
34 chart weeks) as his self-titled album advanced 15-11 (#97-**
BB200; 135 weeks).
Former
No.1 Maren
Morris with GIRL (Columbia
Nashville/ Sony Music Nashville [SMN]) rose 12-10 (#78 non-mover Billboard
200) in her
17th frame.
Outside
the Top 10
Florida Georgia Line with CAN’T SAY I AIN’T COUNTRY (Big Machine Label Group) rose 14-12 (#92-91
BB200) in their 20th week.
Former
No.1 Carrie Underwood with CRY PRETTY rebounded 17-14 (#131-126
BB200) in her 42nd week.
Lee
Brice with his self-titled
set (Curb) pushed 20-16 (#144-146 BB200) in his 20th frame.
Former
No.1 Kacey
Musgraves with GOLDEN HOUR (MCA
Nashville) held at No.18 (#133-148 BB200) in her 61st week.
In
his second frame Willie Nelson fell 2-24 on Top Country Albums (#18-194 Billboard 200) with RIDE ME
BACK HOME (Legacy | Amazon
UK - UK
iTunes - Amazon.com ) but headed Country Album
sales for a second successive frame.
Outside the Top 25
Trio Runaway June (Naomi Cooke,
Hannah Mulholland, and Jennifer Wayne) with 10-track album BLUE ROSES (Wheelhouse Records | Amazon – iTunes - Amazon) made a Hot Shot debuts at No.36
on Top Country Albums and No.5 on Country Album Sales , with 5,000 equivalent
album units, bagging 3,000 in traditional album sales.
It follows the release of Sept 2018’s self-titled EP. The trio’s second
project was produced by Dann Huff and Ross Copperman and boasts 10 songs,
including single “Buy My Own Drinks,” co-written by all threeedmembers
with Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear; the title track; and a cover of Dwight
Yoakam’s “Fast As You.”
They have a sound that was
the backbone of a little group known as The Dixie Chicks, and now it’s making a
comeback through a vocal trio with similar tight harmonies. Mixing a little
bluegrass tradition with dusty desert cool, Runaway June is comprised of three
very different women who fuse their own influences to create a style their own,
however.
With their debut single, “Lipstick,”
Runaway June became the first all-female trio in over a decade to score a Top
25 hit. With the help of the trio’s follow-up Top 40 single “Wild West”
the breakout trio earned a 2018 ACM nomination for New Vocal Duo or Group of
the Year.
Their most current single “Buy
My Own Drinks,” co-written by Runaway June and Hillary Lindsey and Josh
Kear, neither laments, caters to, bashes or attacks the loss of a relationship
but rather celebrates the freedom, spirit and independence of a female having a
night out on her own.
FALLING
SHORT of Top 50:
On the Country Album Sales list (pure sales;
old methodology)
Shane Smith
& The Saints with HAIL MARY made a debut at No.20.
Josh Abbott Band with 4 track EP CATCHING FIRE (Pretty Damn Tough | iTunes - Amazon.com) made a debut at No.29.
Caleb Lee Hutchinson with 6 track Caleb Lee
Hutchinson (EP | Amazon UK - iTunes ) made a debut at
No.30.
Hutchinson was the blond-haired charmer whose crisp baritone and
forward-thinking tastes captivated American Idol’s 16th season, and with an
adventurous batch of original music on the way, he’s ready to build on those
hints of artistry.
Meanwhile, “Belle of the Bar” takes a turn toward dreamy modern rock,
with ambient guitars and vocal echos framing a blue-jeaned vision of love at
first sight. “It’s a good mix of what I’m going for,” Hutchinson says,
“traditional, modern and experimental at the same time.” But to truly grasp
that “modern and experimental” side, look no further than “Better Now.”

Blanco Brown with
breakthrough hit, “The Git Up” (Trailer Trap
Music/BBMG/BMG/Wheelhouse/Stoney Creek/Broken Bow), jumped 4-1 in its
fifth week on Hot Country Songs. It also led Country Streaming Songs and
Country Digital Song Sales for a second week each, with 21.6 million streams (up
19%) and 34,000 sold (up 39%). It increases by 9% to 786,000 country radio audience impressions as it ranks just below Country
Airplay (while sporting 3 million in all-genre radio reach, up 55%, thanks to
pop play).
Aiding the “The Git Up” is a viral dance challenge on
TikTok and YouTube; Brown himself posted a tutorial in May. The Atlanta native,
who wrote and produced the song solo, previously produced songs for pop/hip-hop
acts including Chris Brown, Fergie and Pitbull. “When I got done [writing
it] and danced through the whole thing, I was like, ‘Man, I have to get in
shape!’ ” he recently told Billboard. “This is a great workout song.”
“The Git Up” is dedicated to Brown’s grandmother, who
told him every morning, “Get up. Go do something productive in the world.” “It’s
about messages [in] my music,” he said. “Bigger than anything is chasing
your purpose in life.”
Notably, “The Git Up” completed the quickest trip to the
Hot Country Songs summit since Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” pushed 2-1 in
its second week on the Feb. 25, 2017-dated tally. The latter proceeded to rule
for 34 weeks.
On the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100, the song
soars 29-16 for a new peak.
Dan + Shay notched
their seventh Hot Country Songs top 10
as “All to Myself ” (Warner Music Nashville) rose 11-9. The track
reached the upper tier with 6.8 million U.S. streams (up 13%) and 5,000 sold
(up 28%). On Country Airplay, it hopped 8-7, up 15% to 27.7 million impressions.

Blake Shelton banked his 26th
Billboard Country Airplay No.1 as “God’s Country” (Warner
Music Nashville/WMN) ascended 2-1 in its 15th week (on the list dated July 13).
It reached the summit with an 8% increase to 40.2 million audience impressions
in the week ending July 7, according to Nielsen Music.
On Hot Country Songs the song is No. 2 after leading for six weeks,
Shelton’s longest reign. It also drew 12.4 million U.S. streams and sold 19,000 in the week ending July 4.
“I can’t say enough about the power of this song,” Shelton told Billboard.
“The first time that I heard ‘God’s Country,’ I knew I wanted to record it
after hearing just one verse and chorus. I feel the song fills a gap not being
served [musically] in country right now. I’m so glad to be apart of it, and I’m
thrilled the fans are finding the same [connection] with it that I do.”
Shelton now ties Alan Jackson and George Strait for the thirdmost No.1s
in the chart’s history, which dates to January 1990. Kenny Chesney leads with
30, followed by Tim McGraw with 29.
Devin Dawson, Jordan Schmidt and Hardy co-wrote “Country,” which is Shelton’s
first Country Airplay No.1 since “I’ll Name the Dogs” on Dec. 30, 2017. He
first led with his debut hit, “Austin,” for five weeks in 2001.

Blake Shelton Scores #1 With 'God's Country'
Congratulations
to Warner Music Nashville/WMN's Blake Shelton, who hit #1 on the MEDIABASE Country singles chart this week with
his current hit, "God's Country."
The
song is Shelton’s 26th career No.1. Writers are Devin Dawson, Hardy and
Jordan Schmidt.
Shelton
stated, “This is such a powerful song, and I’m so proud to be a part of it.
When I first heard the songm I thought it sounded like a remedy, like a cure.
It just sounds like a missing link in Country music for the last 10 or 12
years. It feels like a combination of ‘Ole Red’ and ‘Country Boy Can Survive’
to me, which definitely have a place in Country music. Those songs are just
rare.”
“God’s Country” (Warner/WMN)
climbed 2-1 logging 8,556 radio spins (+340), 53.572 million audience impressions (+1.868)
with 27644 Total Points (+1149) from 156 tracking
stations (156 ADDS) for the tracking week June 30 to July 6, 2019 and published
chart dated July 8, 2019.
Kudos
to Kristen Williams, Tom Martens, Adrian Michaels and the Warner/WEA
crew on landing 22 adds for the Ingrid Andress single
“More Hearts Than Mine”. The song topped the "Most Added" board this chart week.
