Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of June 29, 2019)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Madonna Achieves Ninth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart as 'Madame X' Bundles To The Top
Plus: Bruce Springsteen and Bastille debut in top 10.
Madonna landed her ninth No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200) as MADAME X entered atop the tally. The set, released via Interscope Records on June 14, launches with 95,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 20, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 90,000 were in album sales.
Overall, Madame X’s debut sum of 95,000 equivalent album units is comprised of 90,000 in album sales, 1,000 in TEA units and 4,000 in SEA units.
Madame X grants Madonna her ninth leader on the Billboard 200. She last led the list in 2012, with MDNA. Here’s a look at all of Madonna’s No. 1 albums: Madame X, MDNA, Hard Candy (2008), Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005), American Life (2003), Music (2000), Like a Prayer (1989), True Blue (1986) and Like a Virgin (1985).
Madame X’s debut week was comprised of 90,000 in album sales, which is the fourth-largest sales week for an album in 2019 by a woman. The album’s sales were bolstered by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with the Queen of Pop’s upcoming theater tour (starting on Sept. 12 in New York at Brooklyn's Howard Gilman Opera House), as well as an array of merchandise/album bundles sold via her official website.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Bruce Springsteen’s WESTERN STARS debuted, marking his 20th top 10 effort. The set begins with 66,000 equivalent album units (of which 62,000 were in album sales). Springsteen first hit the top 10 back in 1975, when Born to Run sprinted 84-8 in its second week on the list (dated Sept. 20, 1975). The Boss last hit the top 10 in 2016 with the retrospective compilation release Chapter and Verse (debuting and peaking at No. 5).
Across the pond " Springsteen trounced Madonna in UK following bad publicity in UK following Eurovision and The Graham Norton Show.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of June 29, 2019)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Although ranked #4 Country Album Sales and #30 on all-genre Top Album Sales based on consumption units Luke Combs with THIS ONE’S FOR YOU switched places with himself and rose 2-1 (#13 non-mover Billboard 200) to top the summit for a 38th non-consecutive week.
Combs’ new five-track EP THE PREQUEL (River House/Columbia Nashville/ Sony Music Nashville) fell 1-2 (#4-19 BB200).

Former No.1 Thomas Rhett with CENTER POINT ROAD ( Valory Music/ Big Machine Records | Amazon UK - iTunes ) held at No.3 (#16-25 Billboard 200) in his third week..

Morgan Wallen with IF I KNOW ME (Big Loud Digital EX) held at No.5 (#41-38 BB200) in his 55th frame.
Chris Stapleton with the 216-week TRAVELLER (MERCURY/ UMGN) held at No.6 (#55-53 BB200).

Former 6-week non-consecutive week No.1 Jason Aldean with REARVIEW TOWN (Macon/Broken Bow Records) climbed 8-7 (#60-62 BB200) in his 62nd week.

Lee Brice with his self-titled (Curb) rose 20-17 (#162-144 BB200) in his 18th frame.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real with 13-track TURN OFF THE NEWS (Build A Garden | Amazon UK - iTunes) made a debut at No.19 (#151 New Entry Billboard 200) and topped the Country Album Sales this chart week

Nelson and co. have omnivorous tastes and a sense of humor, a combination that results in slow-grooving R&B numbers, sun-kissed pop, rangy rockers, and a persistent good vibe. In troubled times, the band have managed to deliver an album filled with optimism, and that's a remarkable feat. – Allmusic (Rating: 4 STARS)

(rating 60/100)

With Shooter Jenning's outlaw holler and Sheryl Crow doing her backing-singer bit, the results are country slick but the execution is flawless. [Summer 2019, p.82] Classic Rock Magazine (rating 7/10)

These songs sound like they were made to be played on-stage (other than a few that don't lift off the ground) – Mojo (rating 60/100)

There’s a fine line between escapist and naïve, though, and Nelson and company aren’t afraid to toe it. The extent to which listeners enjoy this record depends on how much they buy into the fantasy of Nelson and his famous pals clinking Coronas around the pool while the rest of the world goes to hell. If it feels a little hollow, well, that’s by design. – Pitchfolk (Rating: 6/10)
