traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent
albums (SEA).
Ed Sheeran's 'No. 6' Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200
Albums Chart, Beyonce & Nas Bow in Top 10
After
debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart (BB200) a week
ago, Ed Sheeran’s star-studded No. 6 Collaborations Project ruled the
list for a second week, making it the first album to
spend its first two weeks at No. 1 in four months. The last title to do
so was Juice WRLD’s Death Race for Love, which opened at No. 1 on the March
23-dated list, and held on for its second, and so-far final, frame on March 30.
No.
6 earned 78,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 25 in the
U.S., according to Nielsen Music. That’s down 55% compared to its debut of
173,000 units.
Of
No. 6’s second-week total units, 16,000 were in album sales (down 77%), which keeps the set at No. 1 for a
second week on the Top Album Sales chart. The remainder of No. 6’s second-week
unit total was comprised of 5,000 TEA units (down 52%) and 57,000 SEA units
(down 39%). The latter sum equates to 74.7 million on-demand audio streams
for the album’s tunes during the tracking week — which makes it the
most-streamed album of the week for the second week in a row.
Beyonce Nets Third Top 10 Album of 2019 As 'The Lion King: The
Gift' Debuts at No. 2 on Billboard 200 Chart
Beyoncé, who voices the character
Nala in Disney’s new The Lion King film, saw her King-inspired album The Lion
King: The Gift debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard
200 chart. The set starts with 54,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S.
(with 11,000 of that sum in album sales)
in the week ending July 25, according to Nielsen Music.
Top
Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as
compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an
album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA)
“sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from
an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen
Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to
billboard biz ), exclusively comprising
Nielsen’s sales data.

MAREN MORRIS' HISTORY-MAKING
"GIRL" REACHES #1 FIRST SOLO #1 BY A WOMAN ON THE BILLBOARD COUNTRY
AIRPLAY CHART SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2018
Maren Morris
banked
her third No.1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “Girl” (Columbia
Nashville) ascended 4-1 in its 28th week on the Aug. 3-dated list. It increases
by 13% to 37.4 million audience impressions in the tracking week ending July
28, according to Nielsen Music.
“Girl” marked the first time that a solo female artist has topped the
chart in well over a year. The last time was on the list dated Feb. 24,
2018, when Kelsea Ballerini’s “Legends” led for one week, becoming her fourth
Country Airplay No. 1.
“I am so proud that ‘Girl’ is my third Billboard No. 1,” said Morris. “The
title of the song alone feels like poetic justice breaking this year-anda-half
streak of a woman not having a No. 1 on [Country Airplay], so let’s be hopeful
we never see that dry spell again.”
It’s also the first time in 2019 that a woman has ruled the radio
airplay-fueled chart in any fashion, including groups, duos or as a featured
artist. The most recent was Jason Aldean’s “Drowns the Whiskey,” which features
Miranda Lambert. The collaboration topped Country Airplay for two frames
starting Aug. 25, 2018.
For the 29-year-old Morris — who hails from Arlington, Texas — “Girl” is
her second No.1 as a solo artist. Her first visit to the summit was on
the Feb. 22, 2017, chart when she was featured on Thomas Rhett’s “Craving You,”
which led for one week. “I Could Use a Love Song” marked
Morris’ second No. 1 and her first as a solo act when it ruled the Jan. 20,
2018, chart for one week.
Morris’ additional Country Airplay top 10s include her debut
single, “My Church,” which peaked at No. 9 on May 21, 2016, and “Rich,” which
reached No. 4 on Nov. 17.
“Girl,” which Morris wrote with Greg Kurstin and Sarah Aarons, is the
title song from the album of the same name. The set, her second full-length
studio album, debuted in the penthouse of the Top Country Albums tally dated
March 23 with 46,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week (with
25,000 of that sum in album sales).
The next single from Girl will be “The Bones,” which ranks at No. 26 on
the hybrid Hot Country Songs survey, powered by airplay, streaming and sales.
Meanwhile, “Girl” bumps 9-8 for a new peak.
Upon its release earlier this year, "GIRL" had the highest
debut on Billboard's Country Streaming Songs chart by a female artist
and the highest weekly streams by a female country artist ever.
The song is the
title track from the multi-Platinum artist's second album, which shattered the
record for the largest-ever debut streaming week for a country album by a woman
with 23.96 million streams in its first week. The album debuted at #4 on the
Billboard 200, #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and continues to
receive rave reviews. GIRL is out now via Columbia Nashville.
Morris is currently in the midst of a sold-out world tour, including
appearances at Newport Folk Festival with The Highwomen-her all-star
collaboration with Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires-and with
Dolly Parton and The Highwomen as part of a history-making all women Saturday night
headline set, during which Parton congratulated Morris on the #1 from stage.
GIRL: The World Tour continues this summer, and Morris will support Miranda
Lambert on her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars tour this fall. Visit
marenmorris.com for full tour details.
This year Morris received five Grammy nominations including Record of the
Year and Pop Duo/Group performance for her massively acclaimed hit "The
Middle" with Zedd and Grey, Country Solo Performance, Country Duo/Group
Performance and Country Song of the Year. In May, alongside Zedd and Gray she
was awarded with a Billboard Music Award for Dance/Electronic Song.
