Anyplace, anytime, you choose!
Steve Young writes:
Yes folks, its not your eyes deceiving you – I have a plan!! It’s 2016, we choose when we listen to music, where we listen to music and how we listen to music. The music market is saturated with endless online fodder, music is instant, cheap and disposable……
Yes folks, its not your eyes deceiving you – I have a plan!! It’s 2016, we choose when we listen to music, where we listen to music and how we listen to music. The music market is saturated with endless online fodder, music is instant, cheap and disposable……
BUT…. ‘LIVE’ music isn’t. With every
gadget driving us crazy nothing beats the experience of hearing music with your
own ears, with an enthusiastic crowd around you, and an artist that cares and
needs your support. I don’t write music to make money, I would have starved a
long time ago! I write music because it’s in me, always bursting at the seams,
the need to perform is an obsession and a passion rolled into one.
WHY…. Do I have to choose when you hear me
live? Why can’t you? Who says it has to be your local venue, why can’t it be at
your place of work? your favourite coffee shop? a local bookstore or even your
front room? All I need is a guitar and a space to stand – you do the rest!
I want to set a record for the number
of gigs preformed in THREE MONTHS (OCT, NOV, DEC)

About Steve Young
- Lives in Welwyn Garden City
- Singer-songwriter and guitarist teaches at a music school in Bishop's Stortford at De Rosa Music (Website | Facebook) as a band coach every Tuesday & Wednesday teaching kids how to learn songs and perform them.
- Launched his solo career 2 years ago (before it was too late) having been a musician for 27 years.
- The Welwyn resident was fired from his day job for faking an illness to appear with Lionel Richie!
- Tests out a new song locally playing it live first at the Cowper Arms pub (31 Station Rd, Welwyn AL6 0EA | Open Mic).
- Steve Young spent five years playing guitar for Darren Hayes. Also co-wrote with Darren for Secrets Codes and Battleships
- Has also played for Peter Andre, Lionel Richie, Gareth Gates and Delta Goodrem.
- Until 2013, however, when work and life events sparked an inspiration for Steve to begin working on his own material embracing a love of blues, rock and country. According to his website: A new creative fire was lit within him; songs emerging with a fresh voice whilst benefitting from experiences gained from the past years.
- A 5 track Debut EP titled LITTLE THINGS was released on Oct 31, 2014 (iTunes). It was described as being "the first potent evidence of a ‘new’ voice and presence on the UK music scene" and that its quintet of songs recalled "whispers of Steve’s influences such as early Clapton, John Mayer, David Gray, The Eagles and Turin Breaks but within unique heartfelt and infectious melodic romances of sound".
- Launched live in New York City at the Rockwood Music Hall in November 2014, the release apparently "swiftly lured attention and acclaim, success backed by a live hunger".
- Album TROUBADOUR was successfully funded by a Pledge Music Campaign, 124 pledgers raised 157% of the goal target. The 13 song set is described as a "nostalgic memoir of his trials and triumphs, injected with his own signature style of acoustic pop and alternative country" and that each track tells a "true story, packed with feeling and emotion". Most of the songs were written whilst Steve was working on a Scandinavian cruise ship, and they used the word 'troubadour' to describe anybody playing in a pub, which became his job title/security pass on the ship.
- Young drives all over the country singing songs and plays at a lot of weddings singing mostly love songs.
- Wrote theme to CBBC series My Almost Famous Family and his co-writes with Kate Gudinski are regularly featured on Home & Away.
- British Singer/Songwriter, Steve Young’s music, has been described as “Country music with pop sensibilities” also as “Well crafted Pop songs with strong Country overtones”. The acoustic guitar pulls away from ‘Rock’ genre but the live show ‘Rocks’ far too much to be considered acoustic. The lyrics far too personal to be Folk but occasionally too ambiguous to be Blues.
- Live performances have included: The Rising Stars of UK Country, The Union Chapel London, Islington Assembly Rooms, London C2C Festival, The Edinburgh Fringe, Rhythms Of The World and local events have enthused his ever growing fan base.
- His music has been aired on regional BBC Radio (Tony Fisher BBC Essex) as well as Radio 4 & BBC 6 Music.
- In June Steve attended the world renowned Chris Difford Songwriting Retreat working & writing alongside artists such as Beth Nielsen Chapman, Graham Gouldman, Nik Kershaw and Kevin Montgomery.
- Joined Jess and the Bandits on Friday 20th April 2016 for a show at London's Bush Hall
- On 26th June 2016 BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris (OBE) played “In My Dreams” (a massive tick off Steve's bucket list") on his Sunday show and a live session on Whisperingbobtv, featuring three songs (including a very special cover), will be out later in 2016. Steve was joined by Maria Kroon (Violin) and Tom Seals (Piano)
- His debut album, TROUBADOUR, funded by fans via a Pledge Music Campaign, dropped July 1, 2016.
